    Just Jesus #361

    in Christianity

Robert Flatt said, "The giving of gifts is not something man invented.  God started the giving spree when he gave a gift beyond words, the unspeakable gift of His Son."

This is Daniel Whyte III with Just Jesus, a podcast designed to celebrate the birth, life, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and second coming of Jesus Christ, the impact He has on the world, and the salvation He offers for all people. This is episode #361. The aim of this podcast is to encourage you to begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to begin to live your life according to His Word.

Our Just Jesus passage from the Word of God today is John 1:3 which reads: "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."

Our featured Just Jesus quote today is from an Unknown Author. He said, "Commercialization has obscured the meaning of Christmas. The commercial has become more important than the carol. What man has to sell is not more important than what God has given."

Turkey, Russia say they're not going to war (Second Coming Watch Update #790)

    in Christianity

    1. Turkey and Russia promised on Wednesday not to go to war over the downing of a Russian fighter jet, leaving Turkey’s still-nervous NATO allies and just about everyone else wondering why the country decided to risk such a serious confrontation.

    2. Marine Gen. John Kelly, the top U.S. general in South America says that Caribbean nationals from multiple islands have left their native lands to join the terror group called the Islamic State.

    3. Two Palestinians were shot and killed in separate incidents Thursday in the West Bank as Israel announced plans to build a new fence near the flashpoint city of Hebron in an effort to contain a two-month spate of violence.

    4. Russia announced plans on Wednesday to deploy long-range surface-to-air missiles at its air base near the Syria-Turkey border to destroy any target that threatens its warplanes in the area — an angry response to Turkey’s downing of a Russian fighter jet, which raised fears of a direct clash between Russia and NATO.

    5. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the Palestinians by encouraging them to keep fighting Israel while Iran pledges to "defend [their] movement in any way" they can.

You can read these stories in more detail and get more prophecy-related news at SecondComingHerald.com.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Isaiah 10:20-23: "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth..."

Our second coming quote for today is from John Bunyan. He said, "Let the Lord’s return encourage the saints to hope, and to rejoice in hope of the glory of God, notwithstanding present tribulations..."

    The Prayer Motivator Minute #793

    in Christianity

George Washington said, "Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor– and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

Our prayer motivator verse from the Word of God today is Luke 22:31-32 which reads: "And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold,Satan hath desired to have you, that he maysift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren."

Our prayer motivator quote today is from C.H. Spurgeon. He said, "There should be a parallel between our supplications and our thanksgivings. We ought not to leap in prayer, and limp in praise."

In a Thanksgiving State of Mind

    in Christianity

Thanksgiving is one of those rare times when many people collectively pause to reflect on their past and their present. Most of the time, we are focused on the future and what we can get. However, during this holiday at least, millions of people turn their attention to gratitude and giving thanks for what one has. As I wrote in my Thanksgiving book, Money Under the Car Seat, I believe that we ought not to only pause "on the fourth Thursday of the month of November, but each day of the year, we ought to be in a Thanksgiving state of mind."

Here is one reason why: Psychologist Bill Gaultiere states that "gratitude research shows that thankfulness has the strongest link to mental health and physical well-being of any of the thirty most commonly studied personality traits. Some of the gratitude research goes beyond correlational research to show that gratitude actually has a causal effect on our well-being." This research shows that, compared to other people, grateful people are: happier, less stressed, more social, more purposeful, better sleepers, more healthy, more generous, and even more financially secure.

Wisdom from Daniel for Turbulent Times

    in Christianity

Today on "Ask the Theologian," Dispenational Publishing House editor in chief Paul Scharf fills in for Dr. Randy White.

We will be looking at wisdom principles from the life of Daniel that we can apply to our lives in the 21st century—and also sharing a few thoughts about Thanksgiving—here on today's program.

These are examples of some of the topics that we will consider:

We begin with a few thoughts about the holiday that we celebrate this week (Thanksgiving) and the people who initially gave us that holiday (the Pilgrims).
Then we consider the question of why we should study the prophet Daniel as a model of how to live in our circumstances today.
What unique position was Daniel in with regard to the Law of Moses?
What does the Bible say about the wisdom of Daniel?
How does Daniel's role as a prophet fit into this theme?
What did Jesus say about Daniel?
How did God use and bless Daniel, and how does this lead us to apply his example in our lives?

We pray that you will have a wonderful and meaningful Thanksgiving holiday—and we trust that today's program will add to its significance.
