Dan Poynter is an American author, consultant, publisher, professional speaker and parachute designer. Since 1969, he has written more than 130 books, many reports, and more than 800 magazine articles, most of them on book publishing. The writing and publishing of The Self-Publishing Manual in 1979 propelled him to notoriety in the publishing industry. His column in Parachutist Magazine led him to writing books on parachutes and skydiving. In 1973, he became interested in the new sport of hang gliding. Unable to find a book on the new sport, he wrote the first book on the subject. In 1979, drawing on what he learned in book writing and publishing, he wrote The Self-Publishing Manual. Dan pioneered selling products from his website in 1996.
He continues to edit and publish newsletters on book writing/publishing and professional speaking. Poynter earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from California State University, Chico and attended San Francisco Law School. Everything I learned about publishing I learned first by reading Dan Poynter's books. Another great author interview and this one is NOT to be missed. I had the pleasure of meeting Dan about a year ago in Tampa, Florida at a conference he held. He told us to be bold when talking about our books and products, and so I boldly asked him to be a featured guest on my show...and he said yes! Ask this "Godfather" of self publishing questions. He is sure to have the answers.

Dan Poynter fell into publishing. He spent eight years researching a labor of love. Realizing no publisher would be interested in a technical treatise on the parachute, he went directly to a printer and "self- published." The orders poured in and he suddenly found he was a publisher himself. Dan was prompted to write The Self-Publishing Manual because so many publishers wanted to know his secret to selling so many books. Dan is one of the publishing industry's most energetic, experienced and respected leaders.
Is There A Book Inside Of You? Author Dan Poytner joins host Vanessa Richardson to share publishing tips for self-publishing authors.
