Tune-in for our post-convention segments featuring celebrity survivors. Our 1st in the line-up of special guests is Kathy LaTour. She is the editor-at-large and co-founder of CURE Magazine: an award-winning complimentary magazine with the most extensive direct to patient circulation in the nation.
Kathy LaTour has a flair for writing. She is also a 27-year cancer survivor. First diagnosed with breast cancer in 1986, Kathy became an active member of the national cancer survivor community. After interviewing hundreds of health care professionals, she wrote The Breast Cancer Companion. Her book was so successful and informative that excerpts were printed in numerous publications, such as Good Housekeeping and the bestseller, Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul.
If that wasn’t enough, Kathy was instrumental in the creation of The Bridge Breast Center in Dallas, Texas. Its mission is to provide diagnosis and treatment to uninsured breast cancer patients. Still feeling she could do more, in 2001, Kathy co-founded CURE Magazine. Kathy is also a performer. Her one-woman show, “One Mutant Cell” is a humorous and, at the same time, very serious account of her journey through breast cancer. She performs the show a minimum of forty times a year at various cancer events. In this special segment, Kathy LaTour will share her accomplishments while also speaking intimately about the FEAR OF RECURRENCE: the most prevalent, and often debilitating, psychological issue faced when treatment ends -- for survivors and their caregivers. Through personal struggle and acquired expertise, Kathy shares specific techniques to deal with the fear of recurrence and keep it from running your life.
Vedo is a 21-year old American singer, songwriter and entertainer most recognized for his stellar performances on season four of NBC’s popular talent competition, The Voice. Born and raised in Benton Harbor, Michigan Vedo began singing at the age of 9 when his mother discovered his vocal ability was above average, impressing anyone that heard his distinct tone, range and perfect pitch. Although his voice was certainly a gift, it was a curse as well, bringing more attention than many of his peers in the form of admiring girls and fast crowds.
Police families are not immune to the violence and terror of intimate partner abuse, yet few departments have any specific policies to address domestic violence complaints when their own officers are involved.
