The United States has long been known as a melting pot and, more recently, as a salad bowl. Because people from hundreds of different ethnic backgrounds make up the nation’s population, it’s not surprising that at times cultural groups rub off on each other. Americans who grow up in diverse communities may pick up the dialect, customs and religious traditions of the cultural groups that surround them.
Cultural appropriation is an entirely different matter, however. It has little to do with one’s exposure to and familiarity with different cultures. Instead, cultural appropriation typically involves members of a dominant group exploiting the culture of less privileged groups--often with little understanding of the latter’s history, experience and traditions. Accordingly, socially aware people tend to frown upon this phenomenon.
“Borrowing” is a key component of cultural appropriation. In the 1950s, for example, white musicians borrowed the musical stylings of their black counterparts. Because African Americans weren’t widely accepted in U.S. society at that time, record executives chose to have white recording artists replicate the sound of black musicians. This led to musical forms such as rock-n-roll being largely associated with whites in spite of the fact that black musicians were pioneers of the artform. This move also had financial consequences, as many of the black musicians who helped pave the way for rock-n-roll’s success never saw a dime for their contributions to the music form.
Let's talk about cultural appropriation as it affects pop culture today. Join tomorrow, October 1 on DP RADIO XL at 8pm
Halloween is on it's way and if you're looking for spooky thrills but just can't find the right costume, we feel you! Halloween has been a contant disappointment with it's oversexualized costumes, along with very controversial "cultural costumes". So this one was supposed to be just cultural appropriation and a whole bunch of hip hop...
Of course, while I'm building the episode, BREAKING NEWS!!!...
So the first 9.5 minutes of the show are dealing with the Jordan Davis and Dunny Guns.
Most of it is folks from news clips and not me.
Though, when I do pass the microphone to myself, I take the same position I did with little Tray Tray.
Then we talk about about clown rapper HooDoo. and some cultural appropriation... and I touch a bit on the free market of ideas, which I should do a actual episode on.
AWAKENING THE GODDESS THROUGH ASTROLOGY. On today's show we will be discussing Juno, Vesta, Pallas Athena and Ceres, collectively known as 'The Goddess Asteroids' along with Black Moon Lilith. Together, all these astrological energies allow us to paint a more complex portrait of how the Goddess, The Sacred Feminine is rising through all Beings at this time. Each of these energies is truly multidimensional and casts so much light onto our pasts, present and potential futures. There is so much to be learned from a study of these astrological bodies and we will continue to deepen our knowledge about them in the years to come.

Some of her topics of interest are: the breaking of spiritual stereotypes, the difference between the text and embodiment of spiritual understanding, the notion of ‘cultural appropriation’ and the challenges of cross-cultural interpretation of spiritual insights - and – living, speaking, writing and embodying ‘The Path of the Dark Goddess’.

The Western cultural construct of human rights provides inherent and inalienable rights to all, regardless of culture and tradition . I have some thoughts on the matter - I want to hear yours. Discussion of the #CDCwhistleblower will happen . Why does he (Dr. WIlliam Thompson ) matter so much in our culteral paradigm so much now ? Officer Rafael Ramos sat in the driver's seat. Officer Wenjian Liu was at his side. The two cops weren't at their usual precinct -- normally, the pair was assigned to downtown Brooklyn, but they were working a "critical response" detail in an area with higher crime, police said. That's where they were slain, ambush-style -- Saturday afternoon as they sat in their patrol car, New York Police Commissioner William Bratton said at an evening news conference. The gunman approached the passenger side of the patrol car and took a shooting stance, witnesses told police. He opened fire several times, striking both officers in the head, Bratton said.
They were "shot and killed with no warning, no provocation," Bratton told reporters. "They were quite simply, assassinated." The gunman was found dead in a nearby subway station from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. (above information and story courtesy of CNN)

“Why Black Lives Don’t Matter?”
In this multi-media presentation Imam Shuaibe will address the recent injustices which have incensed the world of people of conscience across this nation. He will address not just the judicial branches of the tree of INJUSTICE that black men and women are being lynched on but its ROOTS.
The potential cognitive dissonance that comes up when you read the title is deliberate. It forces you even on the subconscious level to try to make sense out of it for clarification.
It seems to affirm that “Black lives don’t matter”. And it does. In the sense that the Cultural System has shown that “they don’t matter”. This address will explain “Why?”
It also asks the question, in an “ebonical” manner, kind of like the “slave asking his master” – “Massa, Why Black Lives Don’t Matter?”
It can also be read like an arrogant white supremacists, like Taney, the Chief Justice in “The Dred Scott Decision”, who is insulted by the very suggestion that “Black Lives Matter”. His reply would be an exclamation not a question - “Why, Black lives don’t matter!”
In his decision he said, “Blacks are regarded as beings of an inferior order, .. unfit to associate with the white race ..so far inferior that they have no rights which the white man was bound to respect.”
