Our Lady Of Charity & Una Dictadura con Rascacielos

    in History

Happy Memorial Day Weekend as well as Cuban Indepence day this week May 20th from Conversa Cuba Companioni- trilingual talk radio: topics are Our Lady of Charity. A wonderful article by Maria Ruiz de Lourdes Scaperlanda via the Knights of Columbus www.kofc.0rg from Sept 2007.

Of this article my dearlydeparted cousin and eternal co host of this show John O' Donnell Rosales wrote me on the margins "Bobby, this article permitted me to go to the Knights meeting and talk of La Virgen and the terrors of Castro. There wasn't a dry eye in the house after I finished speaking, it was great and now 120 men (todos americanos) have a real view of the horrors of Castro. It was great."

And in Spanish an article by Carlos Alberto Montaner "A Dictatorship with Skyscrapers" with analysis about the recent reunion between Cuban Tyrant Raul Castro and Pope Francis in Rome.

Tambien - en Espanol - Una Dictadura con Rascaciolos un articulo por Carlos Alberto Montaner con analisis sobre la reciente reunion del Tirano Cubano Raul Castro con el Papa Francis en Roma. Via el blog de Montaner

    Into the Cosmos! Wk 8

    in Soccer

This week on #IntotheCosmos, hosts Ej Garr and Frank Dell'Apa review last weekend's 2 - 2 draw with Carolina, and get you prepared for the San Antonio Scorpions visit to Shuart Stadium on Saturday.

In review of the match at Carolina's Wakemed Park,  the Cosmos earned a draw in stunning fashion, entering the 90th minute down 2 - 0, completing the comeback with a goal from Andres Flores with only seconds remaining in extra time. He also earned a spot on the NASL team of the week.

Flores is our guest this week on the show, as he discusses the goal to pull the match level, while giving us some insight on his time with the El Salvador national team. Currently, he is the only Cosmos player who will be serving international duty over the summer, as World Cup qualification and Gold Cup competition are among the events taking place. He discusses the pre-season stop in his native El Salvador and the excitement for the upcoming trip to Cuba for the Cosmos.

We then prepare everyone for the match this weekend vs the San Antonio Scorpions, as the Cosmos enter the weekend up three points in the standings, with only three matches remaining in the spring campaign.

WORLD WIDE AFRICA THE VOICE OF THE PAN AFRICAN MOVEMENT

    in Politics

Today is the Birthday of our most prolific example of a Black Father, a Black Leader, a Black Brother, a Muslim with morals, a Black Husband that knew his duty to provide for his wife and children and to protect them from all harm.  On February 13, 1965 the Nation of Islam bombed the house of Malcolm El Haji Malik Shabazz. Having the instincts of a warrior he safely evacuated his family and still made an engagement to the people of Detroit. "The newly awakened people all over the world pose a problem for what's known as Western interests, which is imperialism, colonialism, racism, and all these other negative isms or vulturistic isms. Just as the external forces pose a grave threat, they can now see that the internal forces pose an even greater threat. But the internal forces pose an even greater threat only when they have properly analyzed the situation and know what the stakes really are. Just by advocating a coalition of Africans, Afro-Americans, Arabs, and Asians who live within the structure, it automatically has upset France, which is supposed to be one of the most liberal--heh!--countries on earth, and it made them expose their hand. England the same way. And I don't have to tell you about this country that we are living in now. So when you count the number of dark-skinned people in the Western Hemisphere you can see that there are probably over 100 million. When you consider Brazil has two-thirds what we call colored, or nonwhite, and Venezuela, Honduras and other Central American countries, Cuba and Jamaica, and the United States and even Canada--when you total all these people up, you have probably over 100 million. And this 100 million on the inside of the power structure today is what is causing a great deal of concern for the power structure itself."

THE STORY OF SLEEPING BEAUTY Part 1 / Part 2 CRICKET RECORDS C132 1953

Norman Rose (1917 – 2004) was an actor, film narrator and radio announcer whose velvety baritone was often called "the Voice of God" by colleagues. He was best known as the voice of fictitious coffee grower Juan Valdez in the Colombian coffee television commercials.

Pickwick Records (originally formed as Pickwick Sales Corporation, later Pickwick International) was founded in 1950 by Cy Leslie, whose first business was a prerecorded greeting card service that in 1946 turned into Voco Records, a label of children's records. In 1957, after successfully marketing their Cricket children's label of 78 and 45rpm records,

Cy Leslie reorganized Pickwick Sales Corp. in 1952 out of Voco, which had begun in 1946 producing recorded greeting cards, elaborately designed kiddie picture discs with cardboard backings and finally multicolored vinyl records. Cricket was the successor to Voco, making its debut with Pickwick itself on May 25, 1953; "my wife's birthday" as Leslie later recalled. Cricket was the first product line offered by Pickwick Sales Corp. According to Leslie, "Good fortune introduced me to an early genius, Eli Oberstein. He owned a vast catalog which included many children's albums, which he agreed to lease, thus beginning Pickwick's first licensing – The Pickwick Cricket line of children's records.
