Helen Rivas-Rose’s memoir, Brave,is a story of new birth. She has been on a huge heroine’s journey to overcome the great emotional challenges, and life-limiting restrictions of acute shyness. She told me that her journey was a journey away from fear.
To help you understand what kind of shyness we’re talking about, Helen shared in a recent interview on Maine Public Radio that she had a therapist friend who didn’t grasp what she had been dealing with because he compared it to his being shy at a dance in high school. That is nothing compared with Helen’s battle which was with severe, chronic shyness.
“Shyness continued to block me from talking about myself and forming close friendships for another thirty years. How many times would I reproach myself with the same thought: Nobody knows me simply because I can’t speak up!”
So much of her past life was run by events and others because she couldn't assert what she thought or wanted. Helen is no longer shy. Please join us on October 11 to hear how Helen conquered her shyness and became her brave self.
