    Remembering Carnival Traditions, Part II

    in Culture

The first carnival was staged in 1912 during the final years of Danish occupation and lapsed during World War I. Revived in 1952, carnival has become the second largest festival in the Caribbean.

A month-long series of dazzling pageants and talent shows is held to choose royalty to rein over the festival. Fun events such as a boat race, Greased Pig Contest and Toddlers Derby entertain everyone at the festivities.

A series of elimination contests to crown top performers are called Calypso Tents. Calypsonions offer satirical commentary on the state of the islands, oftentimes mocking the shenanigans of politicians. Other popular events held during Carnival is j'ouvert, a morning jump up, a food fair presenting the islands’ best traditional eats and a competition to crown the King and Queen of the parade troupes.

A children's and adult’s parade close the lively month with brilliantly costumed and decorated troupes and floats.

Elite Queen Standing on Red for Diabetes

    in Radio

I'm very excited about this guest; Jackie Walters, Ms. All World Beauties International 2014 is here to talk about not only her platform Diabetes Awareness but also about her new Diabetes Support Group that she has formed.  Her platform is Diabetes Awareness, and the reason she chose this, is because she has lost family members to this silent killer of mankind and also still have family members battling this disease. Jackie says "And if I can advocate to my community on how to get tested with early diagnosis, taking their medicine and regular exercise will prolong their life expectancy; then I would have done my job".

Jackie's hobby is collecting crown pins, but also enjoy shopping for shoes and outfits for different events that she attends. Jackie also enjoys collecting stuff animals.

Highness: The Lonely Heart Series by Latrivia Nelson

    in Books

Join Latrivia Nelson and Bruce Welch as they discuss Highness, the 5th book in the Lonely Heart Series.  Call in and ask your questions, give your feedback or simply add to the conversation.

There is no truer cliché for Prince Michael than love is blind.

As the world’s most beautiful man, he has given up his previous title of royal playboy and asked Duchess Thalia to marry him, but when she confesses to loving the crown more than him, he breaks up with her and causes a very public scandal.

Prince Richard, the older brother who is forced to fix everything after his brother breaks it, thinks Michael has been spoiled too much and proposes an experiment. Go away under an assumed name and live as a commoner to get a better perspective on life and to get out of the crosshairs of public opinion.

Picking a location proves to be tricky but the clever pair decide on the last place in the world anyone would expect a Prince of England to be… Mississippi.

Using a fake American accent, Michael nestles into his new home determined to find peace and get his life back on track. But when the prince delivers the mail to the next door neighbor, he experiences firsthand how love at first sight feels.

Hope Daniels, a local artist, was recently the victim a car accident. Temporarily blinded and trying to get her own life in order, she falls for the prince on their first meeting. Thinking his is just a kind neighbor, she soon discovers that he’s the man of every girl’s fantasies.

Will love be enough to keep the prince and the artist together or will their paths in this life tear them apart?

Read Highness (Part 1), the fifth book in national bestselling author Latrivia Nelson’s Lonely Heart series.

P.S. No cliffhanger. This is a full book with a second part.

The 21st Century Woman with Transformational Coach Lisa Marie Jenkins

    in Women

Fairy tales often convey the message that women need romantic partners to be happy and whole - that someday a prince will come, sweep them off their feet, and they will live happily ever after. But is that truly what makes women happy? What happens when women cannot find their prince, or have found him but still feel like something is missing inside of them?

In her work, today's special guest Lisa Marie Jenkins, a specialist in feminine leadership, provides the catalyst for women to start seeking another ending to the Fairy Tale stories. Lisa teaches 21st century women to wake up to their own passion, purpose, and worth from within. She wants women to know that they have the responsibility to invoke the divine feminine for the next level of human evolution.

Lisa Marie Jenkins is the founder of Igniting Brilliance Through Feminine Leadership, a consulting company providing professional business women mentoring, personal and professional development, and peer group interaction to support each other in becoming authentic and powerful women - women that can help heal and transform the way we all work, lead, and live.

Lisa is also the author of the book Wake Up Beauty! It's Not About the Prince! This book is for any woman that believes her happiness and wholeness comes from a romantic partner.

Today Lisa is here to inspire women to forget the prince and crown themselves with love In their quest for happily ever after.
