Many of us fail to see the humor (or often the irony) in life's experiences. In this context, irony is incongruity between what actually happens and what might be expected to happen, especially when this disparity is absurd or laughable. If we take the time, we find that life is full of such moments. Now that the event is distant and the pain has subsided, thinking about such experiences can make us smile. It turns out that such reflection is a valuable practice. Medical science tells us that if we take life too seriously we will have physical and emotional problems. Tune in this week as Nancy Herold and I discus the importance of ‘lightening up’ as we pursue enlightenment. The recent passing of Robin Williams has left a void in many of our lives because of his gift of laughter. His loss is a reminder that sometimes we have to ‘carry’ the torch of laughter for ourselves. This should be a fun show!

Samiyyah Saafir-Muhammad was born Jacqueline Glover in New York City in 1951. After spending her early years in foster care, moving four times before the age of three, she settled in with her aunt, following her father’s passing.
While still in elementary school Samiyyah took an interest in helping other students do well, joining “The Future Teachers’ Club” in the fifth grade. As a high school student, Samiyyah became aware her people’s struggle for freedom—witnessing civil rights demonstrations, protests, assassinations and riots—and decided she wanted to help somehow. It was in this atmosphere that she went off to Northeastern University in Boston where she majored in Education. Her stay there was short-lived, however, as she was introduced to the teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad and thereafter joined the Nation of Islam. Within the Nation of Islam’s Muhammad University, Samiyyah underwent educational training and worked as a teacher’s assistant.
Since 2005, Samiyyah has had the privilege of serving as the Directress at Muhammad University of Islam in Atlanta, which serves students from Pre-K to the eighth grade. She has been blessed to carry on the 84-year educational tradition, which was started by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and his brave followers in the 1930’s.
A widow after 35 years of marriage, Samiyyah presently enjoys the blessing of her and her husband’s nine children: six sons and three daughters, all of whom attended or are attending HBCUs. Samiyyah has been a mother to not only her nine children, but also to her two stepchildren, her nieces and nephews, her eight grandchildren and countless other children and adults in the community who come to her for advice, wisdom and guidance. Affectionately called MamaMiyyah, Samiyyah’s house is never empty
Grievous losses are an inevitable part of life we will each face, sooner or later. The pain of separation due to deployment. The loss of personal identity in advanced Alzheimer's disease. Life stolen away too soon by cancer's wrath. Financial havoc due to illness, disability, or death. Jean Bota has made it her life's mission to assist hurting people in the process of self-discovery and renewed hope.
With 33 years in the banking industry, Jean has witnessed and counseled people through some of their darkest times. "Change comes with a range of emotional responses, defense mechanisms and deep emotional states," she says. "Change brings profound questions: Who do I see? How can I navigate this change? What will I do? How do I initiate the change?"
In 2001 Jean experienced the sudden death of her husband which took her on a path of self-discovery and into a deeper spiritual awareness. Her loss transformed her, intensified her spiritual life, and awakened her; resulting in a return to college to further her education. It assisted the opening of creativity and restoration of self-confidence. As her losses became mingled with her education, she came to realize that many in the world had lost compassion and concern for others. She saw rational, logical and packaged formulas for coping with loss, which created a disconnect between individuals and their emotions. She felt compelled to develop new strategies; ones that recognized transitions are as natural as night and day.
Jean Bota says, "there is no beginnings and no endings, just adventure in life. As human beings we also experience changes in our lives; many anticipated and some sudden and unpredicted. One has to live those feelings of loss to truly understand the effects they have on individuals." Join us in this episode to dig deeper after loss. Isn't it time to find your passion and find the real you?
The narrative of the "Cleansing of the Temple" tells of Jesus and the money changers. Jesus expels the money changers from the Temple, accusing them of turning the Temple into a den of theives through their commerical activities, taking advantage of the poor, women, and even the Gentiles who converted to Judaism. Besides Jesus's anger at the moneychangers' greed, he did not like the the noise and commotion; for it made it difficult for those who wanted to go and have prayer time.
Chuck Proudfit, in the article, "The Cutting Edge of Marketplace Ministries", states that the the local church doesn't deal much with everyday realities for the working people in the pews (Amy L. Sherman, 2012). He institues the holistic approach of integrating faith and work through business opportuntites that promotes the four E's: Evangelism, Ethics, Enrichment, and Experiene.
This appears to be a positive perspective of conducting business by way of ministry; however, there are those in the Body of Christ that are profiting off congregants and ministry supporters in the name of "covenant partnership" through requests for financial donations. In addition, some church leaders are mixing business with ministry, selling commercialized products (apparel, haircare, skincare, holy oil, water, handkercheifs, etc.) which appeals more to the image of the leader rather than the ministry of the Gospel.
Join Evangelist Shauntae Scott of "Truth Talk" along with guest host, Pastor Lakeisha Camp-Grant of a Diamond In The Rough Ministries-Richmond, Virginia, as they discuss the pitfalls of commericalism and its effect on leadership and ministry; from the background of this text to modernity. Tune in live and call in to share your thoughts!

AJ Harmon was blessed with a village in her very own family. Born in Perth, Western Australia to English parents, AJ grew up on the beaches in the summer and studiously studying English, music and languages during the school year. Reading, dancing and cooking filled the rest of her time. Moving to the United States as a teenager opened her up to not only a new culture, but a faster paced life and eventually to her own Prince Charming as well. Now married for 29 years to her sweetheart, AJ is still perfecting their own happy ending, and loving every minute of it.
When AJ came home one day from her accounting job and announced to her husband that she was writing a book–after the initial shock wore off–he immediately went to work on preparing marketing plans and strategies. As a small business marketing strategist, he was excited at the prospect of playing in the ‘big league’ with the giants of the publishing industry. Never shying away from a challenge, he was up to the task and took AJ on as his number one client. Turning to her son next, AJ has come to rely on him for most everything else.

The bumbling and inept President Woodrow Wilson gave away to the Planetary Oligarchy Familes the control of the economy of the United States. In that year the Planetary Oligarchy basically hijacked the United States of America. Learn how that happened on this episode of the Planetary Oligarchy."
