STR #197 12/02/14 S7e9 "Last Action Hero" Recap

    in Television

In last night’s episode of Castle we saw a giddy Rick get the opportunity to live out some of his childhood fantasies and hang with a few of his Action Hero idols. Throughout the episode we were also given the chance to be right there along side Beckett while she packed up her treasures and said goodbye to her apartment, her home, for so many Castle episodes/seasons. This home held so many emotional memories for her and the audience that it was nice to be able to see Beckett embrace her memories and be hopeful for her future in her new home with Rick Castle. “Last Action Hero” was written by Christine Roum and directed by Paul Holahan.

Here are Elena's STR Round Table Questions for tonight:

Black Thoughts and Theory : The Radio Show

    in Culture

TONITE AT 9 PM EST WE HAVE ANOTHER EPISODE OF BLACK THOUGHTS AND THEORY:THE RADIO SHOW

Your hosts Lex Primeone/ Alex Primo & Runningcowboys Futureattorney will be discussing Black on Black Crime and how it is being used as an excuse to rationalize White on Black Crime and Police Brutality.

The high number of black-on-black crimes in America is mirrored by a high number of white-on-white crimes. The statistics don’t reflect pathologies, but they do reflect the continued socioeconomic segregation of races in America.

According to the most recent statistics, 83 percent of white murder victims are killed by other whites.

It’s only “black-on-black” crime that politicians, pundits and armchair sociologists regard as indicative of some sort of social pathology.

The "Black-on-Black crime" moniker is racist rhetoric functioning under the guise of concern for the state of Black America. People of all races -- Blacks included -- seemingly love to discuss how not killing our own and being more respectable will alleviate the effects of racism.

The Silver Ships with Author Scott Jucha

    in Business

Today my guest is Scott Jucha, author of The Silver Ships. Scott spent several years overseas, earned two college degrees, held many jobs, and found a wonderful marriage partner. Scott's first attempt at a novel, entitled The Lure, was a crime drama centered around the surfacing of a 100-carat yellow diamond lost during the French Revolution. The story was set in modern Rio de Janeiro. So, in preparation for the book, he spent two weeks in 1980 researching the Brazilian people, language, and religious customs of Condomblé.

Over the next thirty-four years, he outlined dozens of novels, but a busy career as a senior manager in the industries of technical education and software development limited his efforts to complete a single one. Now, the time has come, and he's thoroughly enjoyed planning, researching, and writing his first novel. What surprised him was the rapidity with which ideas poured forth once he began writing you could say the dam broke. While he was editing book one, books two and three quickly developed extensive outlines. And, while he was out for a walk and before book one was sent for final review, he had some thoughts for Hellébore, the fourth book in the series. Now, everywhere he goes he carries small tablets of paper and a pen. You just can't risk losing that seemingly good idea when it occurs.

  • Wanda's Picks Radio Special

    in Art

Today we have an opportunity to speak to playwright, Julie Hébert, and cast members: Susi Damilano and Carl Lumbly. TREE, directed by Jon Tracy, has its Regional Premiere at the San Francisco Playhouse, January 20th to March 7th, opens January 24, 2015.

Winner of the Pen Award for Drama and Backstage Garland Award, Tree is the story of three generations divided by race, culture, and time. The play has contemporary resonance, posing questions about family and what it means to “be related.” “I set out to write a play about race and ended up writing a play about family,” said playwright Julie Hébert about Tree. “About the inescapability of family, of being known over time, of recognizing yourself in others, of continuing relationships after betrayal and suffering. We keep each other honest. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes painful – and so it is with this play.”

The story explored in Tree unfolds when a southern white woman shows up at the home of an African-American man in Chicago and claims to be his half-sister, impelling them to confront a shared past. In their search for the truth, they must navigate the fragmented memories of the man’s aged mother to discover where their roots intersect.
