Healing Through Creativity
Hosted by Cheryl Green and Craig Sicilia
Creativity and time can heal all things. Even though it’s been almost 10 years, the first 3 or 4 being the darkest of all. Creativity kept me alive, kept me from letting the darkness of loss because of my disability after sustaining a brain injury. It gave me purpose, strength and carried me through many days and months and years.
There are many forms of creativity, and hope to have many share their arts, but some that I have worked with and all were an amazing benefit, but I had to explore many different types. And some of them worked at different times in my journey to today. Some of the ones I have used, have been, writing in the beginning I have written thousands of pages of material, and hope to come out with a book one day, I have 2 ready to go. But the books will change my life and how people think of me. Writing them not only helped me deal with the darkness I was going through but also the extreme darkness before my injury. Then it was on to writing music, forming a band, and then performing. And as suddenly as the music came several years later it left just as quickly. Then banner design through graphics, writing lessons and developing curriculum for schools, support groups and many others.
Other creative things like public service project, events like brain injury camp, hoopfest teams, gaming events all of which gave me purpose. Other forms of creativity are painting, sewing, pottery, yoga, movie making, crafts like jewelry making, poems, needle work, building things, destroying things. All help us deal with things and heal. All give us purpose.

Join author Craig Steven Wilder for a discussion of his research and book - Ebony & Ivy: Race, Slavery, and the Troubled History of America's University. Craig Steven Wilder is a professor of American history at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has taught at Wiliams College and Dartmouth College.
Many of America's revered colleges and universities - from Harvard, Yale, and Princeton to Rutgers, Williams College, and UNC - were soaked in the sweat and the tears, and sometimes the blood of people of color. The earliest academies proclaimed their mission to Christianize the savages of North America, and played a key role in white conquest. Later, the slave economy and higher education grew up together, each nurturing the other. Slavery funded colleges, built campuses, and paid the wages of professors. Enslaved Americans waited on faculty and students; academic leaders aggressively courted the support of slave owners and slave traders. Significantly, as Wilder shows, our leading universities, dependent on human bondage, became breeding grounds for the racist ideas that sustained them.
Ebony and Ivy is a powerful and propulsive study and the first of its kind, revealing a history of oppression behind the institutions usually considered the cradle of liberal politics.

My TBI is on 'hold' for the busy busy week's of April - so I could enjoy it! Post Gala-days, scootin' with BICS and talking on the Indiana Capital steps on a bright, sunny 4/20 day. Branden drove the 'bus' to Indy for both presentations this eve, and it simply rocked. My thoughts to Sara.
Lots of interviews, lots of talks and discussions and speeches for the Indiana challenge towards making AT LEAST Medical Marijuana legal - and soon. Maybe. I sit in as the Patient Rep, and even spoke to the crowd of around 75-100 comfortable, but smokeless, advocates. We had fun, for certain and passed along a good message. We passed other items as well - more than a dozen in celebration.
Donald Trump interupted our interview with Govnor Mike Pence, who is easily interupted by life in general. They had coffee, the hallway doors to his office was open on this nice day, so 'somebody' heard us. Unless they all had tea together. Many had many items together afterwords, even the finest law officers in the United States had laughs together. It was all in good nature with a purpose. Mercadi took the WALK, I hobbled to a bench and 'prepared' my speech. It was TBI special, I must admit. Only one 'chase away' from the story, and I was given 3 minutes after the Congressman Carter. They all dressed accordingly, I dressed in comfort of shorts and Astros Ball Jersey #7, Craig BIGGIO!
Regardless, Vote. But remember, The Buckeye found Indiana 'not worthy' of his campaign, and Cruz stood in the middle of the gym used for HOOSIERS and called the hoop/goal a "basketball ring".. The Donald brought in Bobby Knight -tough one to top in this State. Bernie has the pot vote, if those folks remember to vote. No MJ ballots at this time - but JUST WAIT...
