Today’s program pays tribute to African Americans who have blazed trails for freedom, in military service and through global ministry outreach. Their selflessness and vision prove once again that Black History IS American History both now and in our past.
Ellen Craft launch one of the most outrageous and courageous escapes in history. Very fair skinned, she dressed up like a White man with her slave husband, who acted as her darker skinned valet and traveling companion, to achieve one of the most daring slavery escapes of the 1800s.
As First Sergeant for a Intelligence Unit, Michael Wiltz serves as the personal adviser to the Commander on all enlisted-related matters, particularly in areas affecting Soldier training. He travels the world as an Army officer protecting our country from terrorism.
And an international field study trip to Chennai, India turned into a God-inspired opportunity for Rev. Karla Cooper during her 2003 graduate years in seminary. That fateful trip has yielded more than 125 Indian churches, now fully a part of the connectional African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Craft, Wiltz and Cooper, three role models who have helped make America become the multicultural mosaic that makes us so unique.
So, when it comes to technology in your stories, how do you treat it? How do you keep it fresh? I’ve read older stories where the tech is very dated, and that can throw me out of the trance.
As a second, do you look at current tech and try to imagine what it might be like in 10, 20, or 100 years?
Silverf0x said: My desire to write died six years ago, same time my brother died. Last week i had an idea that wouldn’t go away until i wrote it down. And What do you know, I actually enjoyed myself I wasn’t expecting it. Point is what do i do to ease myself into this so i don’t lose the enjoyment? And I’ve forgotten most of what i ever learned about craft So how do i pick up those skills again?

Please join us and our guest, Pam Whitworth of Shanti Children's Foundation, for a talk on Compassion in Action! Pam traveled to Nepal for the first time in 1995, fulfilling a dream she had had since she first started reading stories about the Himalaya when she was 12 years old. Little did she know how profoundly this trip would change her life … opening a door to experiences and a destiny she could never have envisioned.
Pam started sending a single child to school in 1997. Over the years she asked friends to help with educating disadvantaged kids in Nepal, and from there the project grew. Then one day she suddenly realized she was smack in the middle of developing the kind of charity that she had always felt called to create! And Shanti Children’s Foundation came into being. Pam continues to visit Nepal about once a year to oversee Shanti and to connect with the children and school administrators, ensuring that SCF runs smoothly. In addition to running SCF, she is an artist and designer.

If you are an organization volunteer, a pastor, a minister, a full time care giver, a nurse, a babysitter, or anyone who has to give time, attention, love, and care to the less fortunate, ther is a point where you just get tired. Guilt may keep you going for a while, but at some point, you just want to go away and not see another needy soul. You could be experiencing "Compassion Fatigue." Its that last step before burnout, when you absolutely have nothing left of yourself to give. What if you're caring for an elderly sick parent? What if you have a chronically ill child? Some times you can't just walk away. Chaplain Oluwatoyin Hines joins us today to discuss her work in helping those who help others to recognize the signs and overcome their Compassion Fatigue in order to continue their work in service to those in need.
