The Canadian Craft Beer Cookbook with David Ort!

    in Lifestyle

David Ort writes about food and drink for publications both online and in print. For almost five years he has expressed his passion for delicious food and well-made beer on his own site, foodwithlegs.com.

The recipes he develops are based on an avid (and geeky) desire to understand the science behind a particular kitchen technique. Explaining why something works, especially to the home cook, is never far from his mind.

Focusing his attention on craft beer allowed him to put his curiousity to work on how ingredients and process combine to make something delicious. Meeting and talking with the people who create the selection of excellent craft beers that are available, was David's favourite part of writing The Canadian Craft Beer Cookbook.

His articles on beer appear every week on PostCity.com and in the chain of monthly Post City Magazines.

The Frugal Foodie with Host Terree Rola talks about Craft Beer in San Diego

    in Food

San Diego County has been called "the Craft Beer Capital of America," home to 97 licensed breweries & brewpubs, with 41 more in the planning stages. San Diego County's numerous internationally recognized and award-winning breweries have created a beer culture that is a draw for foodie and craft beer tourism, particularly during major festivals such as San Diego Beer Week. Launched in 2009, San Diego Beer Week is now a ten-day county-wide festival, held in early November and aimed at both local residents and tourists. In 2012 there were more than 500 events scheduled during Beer Week!

For the first part of the show, I'll be talking about the influence of craft beer and the craft breweries on the food scene in San Diego County. For the second half, I will be joined by Executive Chef Alex Carballo, Former Executive Chef for Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, who recently partnered with industry veteran, Jon Mangini, to launch URBN Coal Fired Pizza in El Cajon. He will be talking with me about how the beer culture is growing in the East County; and, about the upcoming EC Craft Beer Invitational benefiting local charities that serve adults and children with developmental disabilities and the San Diego Brewers Guild.

    EC Craft Beer Invitational
Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM (PDT)

Charlie Papazian Craft Beer Godfather talks Home Brew 101

    in Hobbies

Charles N. "Charlie" Papazian is an American nuclear engineer who founded the Association of Brewers and the Great American Beer Festival, and wrote The Complete Joy of Home Brewing. Papazian is the current president of the Brewers Association.
In 1984, Papazian wrote his first book on the subject of home brewing, titled The Complete Joy of Home Brewing. The book contained a forward by influential British beer writer Michael Jackson. As of August 2005, The Complete Joy of Home Brewing has seen 25 reprintings, 3 editions, and has sold over 900,000 copies. As the first American (and, for over a decade, the only) mass-market book to provide in-depth information on subject of how to brew beer in the home, The Complete Joy of Home Brewing was very often the sole source of home brewing information for novice home brewers in America. Consequently, the book has gained iconic status among America's home brewing community, who have referred to it as the "home brewer's bible." Papazian has since written five more books.
