Tami's son, Michael, was diagnosed with Type I diabetes four years ago at 16 years old. So distraught and unprepared was she over this unexpected news, she vowed to help other parents of children with diabetes.
The first need was for money. The cost for supplies can run into the thousands and if you're caught without insurance or your deductible or copay is too high.
The next need was to help parents adapt to a completely new lifestyle, espcially in the begiining when heads are spinning and hearts are plummeting.
Help A Diabetic Child was born.
Tami now works tirelessly at providing all the essential support parents of children and the children, themselves are seeking. listen now as we talk to Tami about how she got started, exactly was the HADC does to help children and where she hopes to bring the organization.

Tonight's special guest is April Marie Loposky from Pennsylvania, founder of Marley's Mission, a "Horses Healing Children" non-profit organization that provides equine-based therapy free of charge to children, and their families, who have experienced trauma. Her commitment to Marley's Mission is a personal one – her then 5 year old daughter was attacked in the early morning hours of July 5, 2009, in their home in Taylor, PA. Police immediately responded to her home and captured her daughter's attacker. As the legal process went on, Ms. Loposky saw firsthand her daughter's interaction with horses and their innate ability to help children like her heal – unconditional love and trust – from horse to child and child to horse. Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) has shown evidenced-based efficacy in patients who have experience abuse and now suffer with depression, anxiety and other symptoms as a result of abuse. Research and observational findings have shown EAP yields a variety of psychotherapeutic benefits such as: confidence; self-efficacy; self-concept; communication; anxiety reduction, and most importantly… trust. Marley's Mission currently has several horses as well as the use of stables and fields in Lake Ariel, PA. Marley's Mission employs a team approach to healing children who have experienced trauma. The treatment team includes a specially trained Trauma Therapist and an Equine Specialist. See the web site at: www.marleysmission.com
Franny Armstrong is a mother of three and a grandmother of four. Her husband supports her imagination and has the patience of a saint. She’s been writing since she was a child, creating plays to act out in front of the neighborhood children. She charged them five cents admission to join her in the family garage for the play.
Since 2002, after a serious breakdown, Franny had to express herself on the computer since she couldn’t speak, everything coming out gibberish at that time. She’s slowly healed to the point that she can function fairly well. Writing was the best medicine for her and still is.
Franny, an author of paranormal romance stories, also loves to write about rainforests and Caribbean islands rather than about cities. Her characters are well rounded and share her wacky sense of humor.

Listen. Be open for discussion, not just criticism. Ask your kids why they like a particular celebrity and what attracts them to be a devoted fan. Be conversational so they know they’ve been heard before you share your opinion and direction.
Help your child understand that many young entertainers are guided by a team of people whose ultimate goal is to make money. Young celebrities can just as easily be manipulated and given an image to sell even with good intentions. Listening to or watching interviews of that celebrity may give your child a better understanding of their personal worldviews and their character.
Discuss the content. Explain how the song lyrics we listen to and the images we watch affects our minds. Encourage them to be aware of what they’re really feeding their body. Is it truth or a lie? Uplifting or derogatory? Repetition will create habits. What habits do they think they’re forming based on their role model choice?
Talk about self worth and value. From whom and where does it come from? Who sets that standard? Your parents, peers, friends, the media, or God? How does the way you dress, talk, and act reflect your beauty on the inside and outside?
