HAVE NO FEAR THOROUGHNESS IS HERE, KNOCKING ON THE STEP FOUR DOOR

    in Spirituality

We get to see our selves as other people see us; we get to know ourselves as other people know us. If we could see ourselves and know ourselves as other people know us, we would disappear on the spot.  Cioran.  To wrap this up ,we have been looking  at our selves through a dark  mirror  Step Four is the ultimate windex (glass cleaner) that few have  the courage to use this  God given tool

    ————————

We wish to look squarely at the unhappiness this [set of liabilities] has caused others and ourselves We have embarked on a course of action that will restore us to sanity and ultimately root out the causes of our problem, trying, and failing, to live life on life’s terms.

That restoration will depend on our willingness to look at ourselves squarely in the eye and to endure the pain associated with facing what we have become.

The fantasy of finding an easier softer way that would allow us to avoid the pain is what has kept many from completing this step and from maintaining recovery.

Many of us assumed if we stopped our drinking all our problems would disappear. Nothing could be further from the truth.

  • Stand Firm - Contend for the Faith!

    in Spirituality

Jude (NKJV) 3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is the faith, that is, the entire Word of God. Furthermore, this faith was once for all delivered unto the saints!

Jude said we are to contend, but not be contentious. To contend involves both defense and offense.

The second half we will be joined by Mama Todd Twala the visionary, creator, and director of a Powerful South African Musical With a cast of 32 of South Africa’s brightest and most versatile young performers, singers, drummers and dancers, AFRICA UMOJA – The Spirit of Togetherness, 20 Years of Freedom and Democracy Tour is a joyous celebration of dynamic talent, thrilling energy, great voices and sensual dances that sweep across the bright and vibrant South African traditional landscape. Traveling on the beats of drums, from the dusty streets of Soweto to all the corners of the world’s best and biggest stages, AFRICA UMOJA – which in Zulu means ‘together’ – tells the moving tale of indigenous South African music and dance from the earliest rhythms to the current club sounds of kwaito. Audiences all over the world have embraced the traditional love songs, lullabies and other musical expressions of rural life. They have also cried along in the city streets listening to music reflecting the pain of the migrant laborers and their families. The tale dances through sheebeens and the cultural melting-pot of Sophiatown. The heart is saddened by cold stories of forced removals yet the feet continue to stomp along with the explosions of gumboot dancing. The international audiences will relate to names such as Miriam Makeba (Mama Africa) and the late Dolly Radebe, while a thread of gospel music running through the tale recalls the huge helpings of faith and courage. This saw black South Africans through some of the country’s stormiest historical passages.

The Courage to Heal Series: Taking Stock Part II

    in Self Help

Join us as host Faith Reagan continues with the third show in "The Courage to Heal Series," which is based on the book "The Courage to Heal:  A Guide for Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse," authored by Ellen Bass and Laura Davis.

As the last show ended, Faith was discussing the process of taking stock and explaining the "building blocks of safety" including how to create ground rules, create boundaries (or as Laura Davis put it "build a container"), find a safe spot, establish your privacy, and establish a protective pattern and/or routine.  Faith will pick up where she left off in establishing a protective pattern and then continue with building your support system by making lists and asking yourself the right questions to know who directly supports you in your healing.  After answering these questions, things to think about are:  Were there any surprises in looking at all the people in my life and, if so, what were they?  Can I imagine someone supporting me and why or why not?  What's standing between me and a better support system?

Tune in to learn how to progress on your healing journey.  May peace be with you!

Critical Discourse – Black Men, the Mayor of NYC and the NYPD; Viva Cuba?

    in Current Events

The reverberations from the Richmond County Grand Jury’s decision not to indict Daniel Pantaleo, of the NYPD, continue to be felt.

While protests on behalf of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, have been largely peaceful, if not very inconveniencing for New Yorkers, there have been sporadic instances of violence,

During a protest on the Brooklyn Bridge last Saturday, two men, both white, one a college professor, allegedly triggered a melee and assaulted police.

In the meantime, the events and reactions from that fateful day has caused tension between Mayor DiBlasio and the head of the Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, Patrick Lynch, who has accused the mayor of making remarks that are disrespectful of the police.

In fact, some of the NYPD have supported a pledge to disinvite the Mayor to their funerals.

On the international front, Barack Obama has decided to establish diplomatic and economic relations with Cuba, citing that the embargo, in place since 1961, has “not worked”.

Again, as expected, the reactions vary, with intense criticism from Sens. Marco Rubio Robert Menendez, both of whom are of Cuban heritage.

On the other hand, Jimmy Carter praised Obama’s “political courage”. Perhaps he sees this as a sort of redemption from the Mariel Boatlift?

I wonder out loud, what this means for black people economically, with an anticipated influx of Cubans to this country, just 90 miles away.

For those old enough to remember, this conjures memories of the Bay of Pigs (1961) and Cuban Missile Crisis (1962).

By the WAY, Obama says that black people are “better off” (HE said it, NOT me!)

So be prepared to discuss these pointed issues on the Critical Discourse University of the Blogosphere.
