Host Jacque DelRio talks with special guest Maggie Zepeda, candidate for Mayor in Coachella, California. Magdalena “Maggie” Zepeda was elected to serve as a councilmember for the City of Coachella in November 2012.  Her term expires in November of 2016.

Professionally, Maggie has been employed in the education field.  She began her teaching career as a substitute teacher in 2000 and then obtained full-time employment at Coachella Valley High School and then, at Palm Desert High School.  In 2010 she was honored as Teacher of the Year at PDHS.  Along with her full-time employment, she serves as an adjunct faculty member at College of the Desert.   She has taught Public Speaking, English as a Second Language, Conversation courses and Tutor Training courses.  She has also had countless of leadership positions in education such as EL Coach, ESL Lead Teacher, School Site Council President, Advisor for the ENLACE student group, and DSTA School Site Leader.

Over her illustrious career in education, Maggie has counseled, mentored and taught thousands of the Coachella Valley’s youth and adults. However, Maggie decided to impact her community on a larger scale and decided to run for one of two open seats for the Coachella City Council.  As a result, in 2012, with the support of her community, friends, family, and colleagues, she was elected Councilmember for the City of Coachella.  As councilwoman…Maggie has found another platform from which she can continue to positively impact the lives of those she serves.  She believes in educational advancement for all, self-sufficiency and in the community’s economic development. She is a published author, a leader, a motivational speaker, and a tireless advocate for those she serves.
