In this episode of The Red Light Sports Ramble, presented by The Red Light Sports Network, Evan Witalison and Troy Otradovec will look at the outcome, of Black Monday. When the dust settled, the day ended with five job openings. Did any of these openings surprise you? One coach has already found employment; Jim Harbaugh, is headed to Michigan.
The Atlanta Falcons decided it was time to part ways, with Mike Smith. Even with a sub .500 record, the Falcons had a chance to win the NFC South. From the opening kickoff, the Carolina Panthers dominated the Falcons, and claimed a playoff berth. The Oakland Raiders will start the official search, for a coach. After being embarressed, in London, the Raiders fired Dennis Allen. Tony Sparano has been the interim coach, and could receive consideration, in Oakland, or with other teams. Rex Ryan started cleaning out his office, before the season ended. Ryan inherited a good team, went to a couple of AFC Championship games, but has not had success, in recent years. The Jets decided that they needed to make major changes and also fired General Manager, John Idzik. After weeks, of rumbling; and a benching of Jay Cutler, the Chicago Bears are looking for a new coach. Like the Jets, the Bears released both coach Marc Trestman, and General Manager Phil Emery. Black Monday could not come quick enough, for Jim Harbaugh, and the San Francisco 49ers. This firing was like the Christmas present, under the tree, that you know what it is, but just can't open it, until Christmas Day. The same was true for the 49ers coach, he just needed to wait for the season to end.
With all of these openings, which way will team look. There are a number of coaches with head coaching experience, that could be interviewed. There are also many coordinators, looking for that first head coaching job.

Natalie Bellini, BSN, RN, CDE, has had type 1 diabetes since she was a young child. Within a year of finishing nursing school, she started to care for people with diabetes, focusing first on diabetes in pregnancy then pediatrics and insulin requiring adults. She has worked on the medical side of camps for children and teens in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. She has spoken nationally and internationally as an expert in both working with teens and their parents with diabetes as well as infusion set choice, usage and maintenance. Her fundamental goal when developing the teenage curriculum for Children with Diabetes conferences is that each and every teen that attends finds a passion in life and pursues it.
Jim Vail was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1986 at age 19 while he was a sophomore at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Jim graduated with a degree in Media Communications and was a producer for CNBC Business news in Washington, D.C., for 9 years all the while wrestling with the unpredictability of short and intermediate acting insulin. After finally going on a pump in October of 2001 and 'getting his life back,' Jim began volunteering at CWD in the teen program where he quickly became one of the Program Coordinators. He's worn, tested or personally used virtually every product represented in the Exhibit Hall. Jim has recently accepted the position of Director of Development and Communications for CWD.
