The Furiously Fabulous Super Gay Celebration

    in Politics

Last Friday, [most of] the Supreme Court ruled on the right side of history. Since this country was founded, an entire group of people have been marginalized and disenfranchised. Loved ones were barred from visiting their ill partners in hospitals. Basic tax and social benefits were denied. Appeals fell on deaf ears or were held up in the bureaucracy indefinitely. Today, The Fruit is proud to say that America has taken a giant leap toward equality for all. Friday's 5-4 decision to legalize marriage in all states and territories, did not come without it's share of criticism, however. Opponents decried that five unelected lawyers do not have the authority to decide the will of the American people, while others slammed the Justices for rewriting the Constitution. Some Republican hopefuls [*cough* Huckabee *cough*] even said that the Supreme Court “cannot overrule [g]od” on gay marriage. Many have lambasted the Court's ruling with warnings of [g]od's wrath or the coming persecution of Christians. To those grumbling about marriage equality, The Forbidden Fruit crew has one thing to say to you. Love wins! You lose! Get over it! Call in and tell us how you celebrated the ruling or why you think it was a mistake.

Behind the Headlines: The Myth of Jesus Christ - Interview with Robert M. Price

    in Religion

Most people are aware that there is no hard, historical evidence for the existence of the "Jesus Christ" of the bible. So "Jesus never existed", but is that the whole story? What does the real evidence suggest was really going on circa 2000 years ago in the modern-day Middle East and Roman Empire and, more importantly, who wrote the bible?

To answer this most important of questions we are very pleased to be talking this this week with American theologian, author and biblical scholar, Robert M Price.

Robert is a former Baptist minister who today teaches philosophy and religion at the Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary. He is professor of biblical criticism at the Center for Inquiry Institute and the author of a number of books on theology and the historicity of Jesus, including Deconstructing Jesus, Jesus is Dead, Inerrant the Wind: The Evangelical Crisis in Biblical Authority, The Case Against the Case for Christ, The Incredible Shrinking Son of Man and The Amazing Colossal Apostle: The Search for the Historical Paul.

Robert's runs a regularly updated website and hosts a regular webcast called 'The Bible Geek' where he answers questions from his readers.

Your regular hosts Joe and Niall are also joined by amateur bible critic and researcher Laura Knight-Jadczyk.

Tune in for the hard truth from 2-4pm EST, 8-10pm CET.

    "White Rose" Sophia Scholl

    in History

Sophia Scholl was born on May 9, 1921, the daughter of Robert Scholl, the mayor of Forchtenberg. Her full name was Sophia Magdalena Scholl. The family lived in Ludwigsburg, Germany from the summer of 1930 till spring of 1932, after which they moved to Ulm and finally to Munich where Sophie attended a secondary school for girls.

At the age of twelve, she was required to join the Bund Deutscher Mädel (League of German Girls) as most young women at the time, but her initial enthusiasm gradually gave way to strong criticism. She was aware of the dissenting political views of her father, of friends, and also of some of her teachers. Political attitude had become an essential criterion in her choice of friends. The arrest of her brothers and friends in 1937 for participating in the German Youth Movement left a strong impression on her.

After leaving school in 1940 Sophie became a kindergarten teacher at the Frobel Institute in Ulm-Soflingen. She had chosen this kindergarten job hoping that it would be recognized as an alternate service to 'Reichsarbeitsdienst' (National Labour Service), a prerequisite to be admitted to the University. However this was mistake as policy dictated that she had to serve six months of auxiliary war service as a nursery teacher in Blumberg. The military-like regimen of the Labour Service which caused her to change her views of National Socialism and eventually practice passive resistance.

In the summer of 1942, the friends began to question and resist the principals and policies of the Nazi regime. The group decided to adopt the strategy of passive resistance that was being used by students fighting against racial discrimination in the United States. This included publishing leaflets calling for the restoration of democracy and social justice. These were distributed throughout central Germany and the Gestapo soon became aware of the group's activities.

    in Christianity

When Satan has undermined faith in the Bible, he directs men to other sources for light and power. Thus he insinuates himself. Those who turn from the plain teaching of Scripture and the convicting power of God’s Holy Spirit . . . “for the Words I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life !” (John 6:63) . . . are inviting the control of demons. Criticism and speculation concerning the Scriptures have opened the way for spiritism and theosophy–those modernized forms of ancient heathenism–to gain a foothold even in the professed churches of our Lord Jesus Christ . . . !”
