Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is driven by two major needs: 1) to feel safe, 2) to be in control. While survivors seek ways to manage their experience of the world they often find that controlling themselves offers immediate sensations of relief. It's no surprise that eating -- an essential survival behavior -- can lead to distorted coping mechanisms in the PTSD lifestyle.
PTSD has proven to be a main predictor in eating disorders. In fact, 66% of all eating disorder patients have trauma in their history. Today, in honor of National Eating Disorder Awareness week Lauren Lohse (Navigator Program Manager) and Lauren Smolar (Helpline Manager) of National Eating Disorders Association join the show to discuss eating disorder symptoms, plus how to heal.

DEPRESSION: MORE THAN JUST A MOOD DISORDER with PAUL MORRIS
On this show I, your host will discuss why both the medical and psychotherapeutic communities do not completely understand what Depression actually is. The mood disorder that Depression creates is a symptom of this grim, relentless affliction, but it not the cause, which I will discuss in detail on the show. I will also examine the clear and absolute connection between depression and suicide.

If you want to respect your partner, then you have to be able to see ... Remember that how you say things can be just as important as what you say. ... Learn how to pick your battles and decide when it's better to let your partner get what he wants; ..... not about learning anything, it is all about how you would wish to be treated.

I candidly discuss my visit with my new Doctor and how the visit went and the medications and treatment that we decided on.
Living with an Addiction is like sailing on the ocean without any rudder or the ability to raise or lower the sails. On good days - you have no idea of where you are headed - and you can try an hope that it is the direction you want to go - and you think you are enjoying yourself. However on those days when the wind kicks up or turns into a violent storm - holding on to a vessel that can sink at any moment should be enough to motivate anyone to seek recovery. Ahhh - but once the winds die down and you realize that you are still alive - some weird voice in the back of your brain tells you the worse is over and you once again continue your journey into a potentially torrential future.
Join me - Dan Czuba and my many various guest Hosts and Callers as we candidly discuss what it takes to get and stay sober in todays world of growing temptations. Despite the fact that I have 19 years, 5 months and 18 days of continuous Sobriety (But who is counting ? - I AM OF COURSE)- I/we ONLY Have today. Learn how I/we make the Best of every day - while developing habits to grow as individuals - helping others find Serenity for themselves - and possibly those they love. JOIN US!
