Hear interview with Mr. John Rice who is helping educate Alabamians on an upcoming Constitutional Amendment on September 18th. Get a glimpse on how states such as Alabama strapped for cash are finding ways to fund their budgets. Find out what the other side hopes you won't know.
Congress is broken, and it cannot fix itself. If we begin with that basic fact, it seems clear: Our Republic can only be saved by We, the People.
Tonight on The Middle Ground, we'll talk to a team of activists lead by Coffee Party founding member Ryan Clayton about why they believe a Constituional Amendment to overturn Citizens United is the best path forward. As we speak, Lawrence Lessig is drafting the language to be introduced in state legislatures across the United States, calling for an Article 5 Convention to address the issue of money in politics.
Current law, as decreed by the Supreme Court in the 2010 "Citizens United" decision, calls for unlimited spending by multi-national corporations to influence our elections, and thereby the laws we live by in the United States of America. The Court has said they would welcome disclosure laws, but Congress is too divided to enact such laws, in part due to cynical hyper-partisanship, in part due to the fact that members of Congress from both parties are reluctant to change a system that put them in power. And yet, so many in Congress say they feel like hostages to fundraising. What can we do to rescue them from this corruption? Keep pressing for disclosure laws? Wait until the next election and "throw the bums out?" Or, if the problem is the corrupt system, and not the well-meaning individuals we send to Washington, perhaps our guests are right in saying a Constitutional Amendment is the only way to free the elected, and save the Republic.
Presented by Coffee Party USA, "The Middle Ground" covers a variety of topics with a trans-partisan approach with an eye to finding the place where the two major political parties share that 'middle ground.' Co-hosted by award-winning filmmaker Eric Byler (center-left perspective) and political author Michael Charney (center-right perspective).

How did we get to the point where rules are being made and enforced by unseen, nameless, faceless folks in inner offices of Washington? Where did it go wrong? Mike Slack and Dave meet again to discuss the need to get back to the intent of the founders - and in a hurry. Daily freedom is being sucked out of you and your family. Obamacare is just a fatal symptom of the larger problem. The federal government claims ownership of the very air that you breathe and the water that falls from the sky into your field. There is really only one way back. State Sovereignty!
And, it's once again Free Speech Saturday. Call with your favorite topic and we'll all roll it around for a bit.

What kind of opportunity is today's anticipated Senate vote on a constitutional amendment to regain the right to legislate money in politics?
It feels like some bit of irony that on this anniversary of tragedy this concept will be publicly judged. Some say it is just another photo op, sound bite fest, waste of time (Congress as usual these days). Some, like me, consider it a chance for the will of The People to show its face in the halls of Congress.
What do you say?

Free speech. The First Amendment to our Constitution.
Yet, it seems as if not all free speech is equally protected.
In the name of tolerance, only certainly speech is tolerated. If you are "pro" anything American, patriotic or religious, you are now labeled "intolerant" by a group that claims we must co-exist.
Want to fly the American Flag? Show your support for our military? Defend traditional marriage? Dare to wish someone a "blessed day? Then you need to be prepared to lose your job, be investigated by the IRS, get your page shut down by Facebook and be called some of the most nasty of names by those who tell us we must "co-exist."
Want to hold a Black Mass on a college Campus? Want to bring someone on campus convicted of murdering a police officer? Want to bring a terrorist to speak at your campus? That's all protected under the First Amendment according to the left.
The caveat is that we can only have a First Amendment and co-exist as long as we conform to what liberals say is okay.
The reality is that the left prefers that the right remain "speechless."
It is time to push back against the real enemies of free speech.
Katie O'Malley, Editor at Progressive Today, joins us today to talk about the dangers facing our First Amendment, along with how PC is taking our society on a downward trajectory.
This show is about sovereignty. Sovereignty in the home, in our local communities, and in our States as well as our Nation. CommonCore, CSCOPE, ObamaCare, the EPA, BLM, and a plethora of other schemes and government agencies are trying hard to take away our rights and freedoms.
