Greatly expanded government spending for every conceivable...2. Higher and then much higher taxes.3. An increasingly unbalanced budget despite the higher taxes.4. Wild inflation of our currency.5. Government controls of prices, wages and materials supposedly to combat inflation.6. Greatly increased socialistic controls over every operation of our economy and every activity of our daily lives.7. Far more centralization of power in Washington and the practical elimination of our state lines.8. The steady advance of federal aid to and control over our educational system leading to complete federalization of our public education.9. A constant hammering into the American consciousness of the horror of modern warfare.10. The constant willingness of the American people to allow the steps of appeasement by our government that amount to a piece meal surrender of the rest of the free world and the United States itself.

"Take it from an educator--or thousands" is the call of this year's Connected Educator Month set for October 2013. A partner of the NWP through our Educator Innovator Initiative, Connected Educator Month (CEM) seeks to broaden and deepen educator participation in online communities of practice and move towards a more fully connected and collaborative profession. This NWP Radio will explore what it means to be a connected educator in the 21st century, what the implications are for writing project sites today, and how to get involved in CEM in October and connect with the larger Educator Innovator Initiative throughout the year.

What does it mean to be soulfully connected? And how can we achieve that? Steffie Vandierendonck and Patricia Talavera join me for this 30-minute interview to discuss their ideas about this. They are the co-creators of the upcoming Become Soulfully Connected telesummit. Please note that we will not be taking listener calls during this special interview.
Filmmaker Tiffany Shlain is perhaps best known for her movie "Connected: An Autoblogography about Love, Death & Technology," which focuses on technology and interdependence. Her research into these issues have gained her accolades worldwide and she has become a sought after speaker on the subject. The U.S. State Department selected "Connected" as one of the films to represent America at embassies around the world for their 2012 American Film Showcase. Honored by Newsweek as one of the “Women Shaping the 21st Century,” Shlain has written content for TED and advised the likes of Secretary of State Hilary Clinton on the Internet and technology. But her connection with the Internet began much sooner, as she founded the Webby Awards (and also co-founded The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences).
Following the success of "Connected," she decided to more interactively engage with a global audience in her filmmaking through "Let it Ripple: Mobile Films for Global Change." She has already made a few films using people from all over the world. She plans on making 16 short 2 to 10-minute films over the next 4 years about important aspects of life. Each film utilizes volunteered content (videos and artwork from people around the world created around a theme). The finished films are then customized for non-proft corporations around the world.
Her films and work have received 50 awards and distinctions including the “Disruptive Innovation Award” from the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival. The list of honors is too long to paraphrase here. But her presence in the world continues to grow as she seeks to change the world one new connection at a time.
