5-15-14-AM360 - Imam Yusuf Ramadan has a conversation with two Muslims, Sister Sheri Umrani Muhammad, New Jersey and Imam Michael Saahir, Indiana. They were invited recently by the Focolare Community to be a part of a Muslim delegation to The Vatican, Rome /// The History of the Focolare Movement and the Community of IWDM /
Our special guest is Veronique Jones, an artist who specializes in Ketubahs.
The ketubah is a unilateral agreement drawn by witnesses in accordance with Jewish civil law, in which they testify that the husband guarantees to his wife that he will meet certain minimum human and financial conditions of marriage. Once the ketubah is completed, the procession proceeds from the groom's table to the bridal throne, accompanied by singing and dancing.
Veronique Jonas (nee Soriano) was born in Lubumbashi, Zaire, presently the Republic of Congo. As a young girl, Veronique relocated with her family to South Africa where she received a Bachelor of Art degree from the University of Cape Town. As a young wife and mother Veronique once again relocated. This time to Dallas, Texas. For close to 20 years Veronique was Art Director and teacher to hundreds of Elementary and Middle school students at the Solomon Schechter Academy where she was known to draw out a child’s hidden inner potential to communicate through the medium of art.
Veronique still resides in Dallas with her husband of 40 years. Her 3 children are now grown, providing Veronique with yet another viewpoint of life as that of a grandmother.
Please join us for a conversation about Creativity, Community, and Cultural relevance. We will be engaged with two dynamic guests. The first half of our program, we will interview the talented vocalist Ozara Ode. Ozara has started a Gofundme campaign to take her Nina Simone adaptation to Broadway. After reaching much success in Atlanta with the production “In the Key of Nina” during the summer of 2015, Ozara is on a mission to further honor Ms. Simone’s legacy. We will be talking more with Ozara to find out what she is doing and how we can support her.
The dialogue for the second hour will be driven by Pittsburg raptivist, Jasiri X who has been steadily climbing the rungs of the underground ladder worldwide. Jasiri made major noise with his debut single “Free the Jena6”. Tonight he will enlighten us about Black Liberation Theology and share what else he has in store.
We will contemplate the fate of a center that was designed with the spirit of Comrade Tupac Amaru Shakur in mind. Built to be a hub of Creative Community collaboration and cultural education, it has long been shut down and now the building is for sale. We look into ideas about what happened, why, and what we can do differently to insure that similar efforts flourish. Welcome to the Blaq Hour.
Today’s episode is “The Role of Church and Community Development”. We will discuss the history of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church and its impact on community and society in particular and the role of the Church, in general, and its responsibility to community.
Our guest for today is Rev. Albert D. Tyson III, the Presiding Elder of the North District, Chicago Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. The AME Church was founded in 1787, and has a mission to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people.
Elder Tyson is highly involved in the AME Church, and the community and civic affairs of Chicago and beyond. His resume is extensive, and time does not permit me to share it all, but here are a few highlights. Elder Tyson is a member of the Board of Examiners of the Chicago Conference African Methodist Episcopal Church. He has served as the Vice-President and and the Parliamentarian of the Board of Directors for the Interfaith Organizing Project (IOP). Elder Tyson also has served as the Treasurer, and eventually, the President, of the Near Westside Community Development Corporation (NWSCDC). He is a former member of the Board of Trustees for Chicago City Colleges and was recently appointed as a commissioner with the Chicago Public Building Commission.

No matter where you fall on the spectrum, all of us need to strongly consider and dialogue about how we will do ministry in a world that will no longer define marriage and sexuality by traditional terms.
The overall objective of this conversation is NOT to force a change in people's opinions or theologies; the main purpose is to begin the much-needed dialogue on the realities of doing ministry with the LGBT community in mind. Whether you affirm or deny homosexuality theologically, we can all agree all people are worthy of experiencing God's love; and we must admit that the church has traditionally been a very hostile and hypocritical place for LGBT individuals. How do we do ministry today in a way that upholds our biblical convictions (as diverse as they may be), and still demonstrate love to a community (as diverse as it may be)?
Special Guest: Pastor Dwight Radcliff
Pastor Radcliff holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies (with highest honors) from the Long Beach Bible College, and a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary (with an emphasis in Multi-Cultural Ministry/African-American Church Studies). He is currently pursuing his PhD.
Special Guest: Pastor Curt Thomas
Pastor Curt Thomas is a graduate of Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he received a Bachelor of Science in Education. He furthered his study in ministry by completing a certificate program with Interdenominational Theology Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. He incorporates the knowledge and skills garnered from his studies in his approach to educating, counseling, andempowering his church members and community members at large. Pastor Thomas serves as the Senior Pastor of The Renewed Church of Los Angeles.
