Music is all in the email you send or is it really included at all.

    in Entertainment

Pitches from brand new bands and artists not tied to a public relations company are unarguably the ones that catch the most skepticism from journalists. Sometimes it only takes an unfamiliar name amid an avalanche of emails from recognizable PR reps for a writer to pass you over. If they’ve actually opened your message, then any sort of blunder could easily cost you.

Does that sound harsh? It’s not, really. I can’t speak for everyone, but generally, journalists aren’t unnecessarily mean; it’s just that there is more music than there are writers. There are expectations about the quality of music, of course, but also the presentation of your inquiry. Outlined here are five general types of pitches to avoid, and the mistakes commonly found within them. Keep them in mind when getting your pitch together, and you’ll better the likelihood of receiving a response.

Is Trespassing A New Media Fad?

    in Hobbies

This week, on the APRHF's Let's Talk Trains Show, we welcome the Executive Director of Missouri Operation Lifesaver, Rick Mooney.

With all the press about Bravo Network's "Work Out" star, Greg Plitt---who was killed while trespassing on the right-of-way, shooting a commercial for an energy drink---and the recent influx of trespassing injuries and deaths in the media, such as when professional photographers take unsuspecting clients to get Senior Photos or modeling photo shoots. This brings to mind what WE all can do to educate the public on how dangerous the tracks are. We will discuss ways that we---as railfans/model railroaders/rail-buffs---can help spread the word on railroad safety and ways to help end these tragic events, for all those who are involved.

To lighten up the mood, during the Second Half of the show, APRHF President Bob Cox and Kansas City Nathan discuss modeling Amtrak passenger trains throughout the years. Bob & KC Nathan will talk about the different ways to model the American passenger rail service, from it's very beginnings to the present day. Since Bob is the station caretaker at the LaPlata, Mo. Amtrak Station, who else would be better than to talk about this!?!

Be sure to join us, on Facebook, Twitter, and as always the chatroom on LetsTalkTrains.com.

Health Insurance Countdown - Get Yours Now!

    in Health

Join Partners in Health and Biz talk show host Gail Dixon this Saturday, January 31, 2015 and learn what you can do now to get affordable health coverage before the February 15, 2015 deadline and avoid a tax penalty this April. Call into the studio with your questions and/or comments: 347-945-7433.

If figuring out your 2015 health insurance is still on your "To Do" list, here are the three things you need to know:

It's not too late! Open Enrollment is...well, open! If you haven't applied for coverage, you still have time.

Have coverage from last year? Check to see if your current plan is still the best one for you. Many carriers have changed their pricing and you may want to choose a different plan.

Worried that health insurance is too expensive? Many people qualify for a tax credit subsidy that lowers the premium they pay each month. Example: subsidies are available for individuals with income between $11,670 and $46,680, or a family of four with income between $23,850 and $95,400.

Open Enrollment for 2015 coverage runs through February 15, 2015. During this time you can sign up for new coverage, change plans, or find out if you can get help paying for your coverage.
