Christina Tobin is making a career of helping honest, earnest candidates to run for political office. In order to shift power back to individual voter, Tobin founded The Free & Equal Elections Foundation, a non-partisan, 501(c)3 non-profit organization, dedicated to creating open and transparent elections in 2008. Free and Equal is the platform that’s helping thousands of citizens work together, who want to clean up politics for once and for all. Increasing visibility of alternative candidates by providing debate forums is part of Tobin’s larger strategy to inspire passionate activists and young people, who do not have major money sources, to run for public office. She recently organized a multi-city United We Stand Festival series. It started at UCLA on May 10, 2014 and is crossing the country during the Fall of 2014, to raise awareness for congressional elections.

Join us on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 7pm on Blog Talk Radio for Black Women in Conversation with Agunda Okeyo , African Feminist and Producer of Sisters of Comedy, for a provocative conversation on laughter, women, feminism and resistance.
Why is laughter wonderful, healthy and yet so fleeting for Feminists? Great scholars, feminists and womanists--Alice Walker for example, June Jordan, Pat Parker, bell hooks, and we can’t help but think of the great Maya Angelou when she said: "My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return."
This conversation among Black women will offer a position from which to talk about laughing, as feminists as womanists, as women of color, “as a means of breaking silence and as coinciding with the self-articulation of women on their own terms.” Activist, Writer, Producer Agunda Okeyo joins us as we talk of the difference between silencing humor and humor that breaks silence. This Wednesday, 7pm we ponder, what would it look like for humor to serve as a practice of feminist resistance?

Tonight we will bring you another episode of The Charleston Comedy Podcast presented by Comedy Zone Charleston! Our guest tonight is national touring comedian Monte Allen. Monte’s rapid-fire comedy is based on an outstanding ability to take everyday dull life and turn it into gut busting laughter. But hold on tight to this ride because his southern point of view and creative imagination will allow you to see life in a skewed and twisted perspective. You can also catch Monte’s new hit song “Better Places” all over the radio from coast to coast. “Better Places,” or should I say “I’ve Been Kicked Out of Better Places,” is a laugh out loud original comedy song that combines true mishaps in this crazy comedians life with a southern twang. This wild man’s show is just good original comedy that will leave you wondering if he is really that screwed up. Tune in tonight live at 10 pm! Call into the show at 347-308-8648. How much of your life has been lived with a sense of "purpose"? Does your life speak with a sense of design or direction? Do the various parts of your life experiences fit together to look like a completed puzzle or are there pieces missing or pieces totally out of place? How do we even begin to live life in such a way as "on purpose?" Tough questions, I know.
This is what this weekly study is all about; getting some kind of direction on some of the tough questions we face in life. And, the idea of "Living Life on Purpose" seems to qualify; it's a question without even being raised as a question.
It's a subject that is talked about a lot. It's a subject that most of us have never successfully traversed and one that only the "blessed" few seem to have answered. Well, let's change that. The way I handle this may not be to your liking, but when we finish the next two sessions, you will be better equipped to move from this point forward with a sense of purpose that somehow fits into something larger, greater than you ever imagined.
Let's begin today, "Living Life on Purpose."
