UNBREAKABLE - A Story of Hope and Healing in Haiti
In the late afternoon of January 12, 2010, an otherwise ordinary day turned into a nightmare, forever changing the tranquil yet volatile nation of Haiti.
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the land that day devastating an already impoverished nation. It wiped out entire villages, and collapsed buildings including the country’s government headquarters. Hundreds of thousands lost their lives, more than one million were displaced, and tens of thousands were injured—including countless children and young people who suffered the loss of limbs.
Two American organizations stepped in. Despite corruption in the country and the threat of failure, Project Medishare set up clinics to aid the victims, and the Knights of Columbus, an international charitable organization, provided the funding necessary to ensure that prosthetic limbs would be made available for every child amputee. But this was only the beginning.
A small group of earthquake victims became emboldened to defy deeply entrenched Haitian stereotypes against people with disabilities. They formed Team Zaryen, an amputee soccer team that has transformed victims into beacons of hope, creating real possibilities for those attempting to rebuild their lives from the rubble of the 2010 earthquake. Team Zaryen’s dream to give back to those whose efforts helped them get back on their feet stretches all the way to Washington, offering help and inspiration to wounded American veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Join Christy Demetrakis and her special guest, Pastor Eric Petree of Citygate Church Tuesday, April 14th at 6:30pm EST for "Faith to Conquer Fear: Moving from Here to There."
About Pastor Eric Petree:
Eric Petree is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and the Pastor of CityGate Church Cincinnati (formerly Towne Worship Center). The son of Leon Petree, a highly respected evangelist and the founder of Towne Worship Center, attended Rod Parsley’s World Harvest Bible College in Columbus, Ohio. After graduation, Pastor Eric felt the call of God to return to his home town after graduation to serve as the Associate Pastor at the church he grew up in. He and his wife, Kimberly, were installed as Senior Pastors of the Towne Worship Center in October 2007.
Since becoming Pastor, the church has doubled in size each year. When Pastor Eric published his book, Final Destination, in September 2012, it was the equivalent of planting a spiritual seed. As a result, in September 2013, Pastors Eric and Kimberly recognized CityGate’s need for even more space to receive an increased harvest. In March 2014, CityGate Church launched a satellite campus north of Cincinnati’s city limits in West Chester, Ohio.
Outreach is at the core of Pastor Eric’s vision, and under his leadership, CityGate Church has permanently affected Cincinnati through its authentic outreach and evangelical approach to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastor Eric’s online ministry reaches past the City of Cincinnati and flows into third-world countries around the globe.
Pastor Eric Petree is the honored husband of a fearless wife, a proud father of an incredibly talented daughter, a passionate and compelling preacher, and a willing shepherd who faithfully guides God’s sheep.
Today Ebony Empress will be talking to George Lee Jr about his book... “Lov(H)er”
George Lee Jr. began writing at the age of 12 beginning with poetry and Hip Hop influenced rhymes and songs. In his mid-20s he began publicly performing his poetry in the form of spoken-word in and around NE Ohio open-mics, coffeehouses, bookstores, art galleries and universities under the pseudonym of Echo. By the time he was well into his 30s, he had been a member of several spoken-word collectives having performed in Akron, Detroit, Columbus, Atlanta, New York City, Philadelphia as well as his hometown of Cleveland among many other cities. This platform also awarded him the opportunity of auditioning and then qualifying as a finalist to perform on HBO’s now defunct DefPoetryJam in 2005.
