Presbyterian’s website says emergency department doctors are independent physicians — common language in hospitals, where the separate but interlocked interests of single doctors, physicians’ groups and the institution itself can be bewildering.
At Presbyterian’s ER, the rest of the story is even less known. The signs all say Presbyterian, but Presbyterian doesn’t run it. The entire department is outsourced to an independent contractor.
The contractor, a Fort Worth-based company, Emergency Medicine Consultants Ltd., serves hospitals under the name of its medical practice, Texas Medicine Resources LLP, and uses the website name emdocs.com. The company referred questions to Texas Health.
A comparison of clients finds that two failed to beat state or federal averages in any category of emergency care quality. Two more — Texas Health Presbyterian and Methodist Charlton in southwestern Dallas — bettered those figures in just one category. In five others, they were worse, based on the latest report, from October 2012 to September 2013, by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Presbyterian ranked 78th for safety among Texas' busiest 100 hospitals in a recent Dallas Morning News analysis of hospital complication data for 2012. Of 26 North Texas hospitals in the study, it was 17th.

THE STORY OF THE 1947 SOUTH AFRICA TOUR OF ENGLAND.
Introduced by Ben Manning featuring LOST BBC footage.
Manning was professionally coached as a child until a back accident meant he could not persue the game, however - he has commentated (as a collector and devotee of the game) with the BBC and for Somerset county cricket club's radio commentary - some of which can be found on youtube. The Murali Kartik incident in 2012 achieved 13,000 listens on youtube. His proudest moment was to be coached by Norman Cowans and the late Wilf Slack (England cricketers of the early eighties ) as a child, but as an adult his proudest moment was when he attended the memorial service of the late Christopher Martin Jenkins - "CMJ" - at St Pauls Cathedral in 2013.
Ben's Cricket Archive of Audio and readings of rare books will feature. Thousands of hours of footage unavailable elsewhere will feature.
Current affairs, stats and the great history of cricket.
You will hear from several of the commetators on things ranging from Forgiveness, What you should be aware of as a parent, and business. There will be a Daily Dose of Weird news then we will offer up tips to get your mind set on the right path.
Thank you for joining the conversation. Take out your This Needs To Be Said pen and paper, because class is in session! (ding, ding)
The Dallas County Commissioners Court is planning to call a special meeting for Thursday to discuss whether to request that Gov. Rick Perry declare a local emergency because of the Ebola crisis. The meeting will be at 2 p.m. at the County Administration Building, 411 Elm Street in Dallas.According to state law, a declaration of emergency “activates the appropriate recovery and rehabilitation aspects of all applicable local or interjurisdictional emergency management plans and authorizes the furnishing of aid and assistance under the declaration.”
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said they probably will include restrictions on using public transportation and visiting areas where they’d be at risk of transmitting Ebola.President Barack Obama vowed a more aggressive federal role.He offered assurance that a “serious outbreak” remains extremely unlikely — a somewhat weaker promise than one last week, when he said the threat of any outbreak remained “extremely low.”“I want people to understand that the dangers of you contracting Ebola, the dangers of a serious outbreak, are extraordinarily low,” Obama said. “But we are taking this very seriously at the highest levels of government.”Dallas Morning News
