Consciousness and cognition are highly debated between near death experiencers and science. Science has it all wrong, thinking consciousness is cognition, but near death experiencers know better. So to end this controversy I will from a logical, deductive, and common sense point of view put this issue to rest. Even a ten year old will be able to understand it. Join me on my next show when I break down consciousness and cognition, and reveal to you that the two are related but not the same.

People who are raise believing in the Christian God have badly damage cognition. Women are seriously injured too. But the men are wife and children abusers, thieves, rapist and murderers. God, Sunday school and preaching never help them, they don't know what their own problem is...God.
Join Amy Zellmer as she chats with speech therapist, Rachel Katz M.S., CCC-SLP, about what Aphasia and how to communicate with patients who suffer from it.
Aphasia, which is most often the result of a traumatic brain injury or stroke, doesn’t affect intelligence, so it is not hard to understand the very real struggle of the patients experiencing it. In fact, a 2010 study on the impact of 60 different diseases and 15 conditions on quality of life for more than 66,000 people found that aphasia has the largest negative impact on quality of life, more than cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
Rachel is a Speech Team Leader at HealthSouth Sunrise Rehabilitation Hospital (HSSRH) specializing in aphasia, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, and cognitive rehabilitation. Her experience is with a wide variety of diagnoses, including primary stroke and brain injury patients in an acute inpatient rehabilitation setting. She is a member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and received the ACE award for advanced continuing education in her field.
She has an advanced specialty certification in Vital Stim/NMES, Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation and Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy. She is a co-chair of the Joint Commission Disease Specific Stroke Program at HealthSouth Sunrise. She co-developed the Evidence-Based Cognitive Evaluation and Treatment corporate course and is a corporate clinical educator in the area of cognition. Rachel initiated and facilitates the Aphasia Community Group at HSSRH to provide education and support for people with aphasia and their family members and caregivers.

We have so much to do and so little time to do it. We stay up way passed our bedtimes getting in that last piece of the report, watching the end of that road trip game on the west coast or maybe even still stuck at the office. So many people go to bed late and get up early to catch their train or get their kids ready for school. But how much is that lack of sleep affecting you and your health? How much sleep should you be getting and what is the effect on your energy, mental health, cognition and mood? Find out Wednesday at 3pm CST.

According to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Iowa, racial stereotypes affect black boys as young as five years old.
White participants in the study were more likely to view a toy as a weapon if it was associated with black boys, reports The Daily Mail. Those who participated in the study were less likely to view a toy as a weapon if it were associated with a white boy.
Seeing the face of a black boy was enough for the white students in the study to misidentify the toy as a weapon.
Lead researcher, Dr. Andrew Todd, said this study shows how people who don’t view themselves as racist can still react with unconscious bias.
“Our findings suggest that, although young children are typically viewed as harmless and innocent, seeing faces of five-year-old Black boys appears to trigger thoughts of guns and violence,” Dr Todd said.
“One of the most pernicious stereotypes of Black Americans, particularly black men, is that they are hostile and violent,” he explained.
“So pervasive are these threat-related associations that they can shape even low-level aspects of social cognition.”
The white college students were shown images of black five-year-olds and white five-year-olds. Then they were shown a second image which they were told to identify as quickly as possible. Participants recognized guns quicker after seeing images of black boys. They were also quicker to mistake toys for guns after viewing images of black boys.

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects thousands of state and local police officers, armed service men and women and civilians of every description. PTSD is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of a life-threatening event. PTSD can stem from military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or physical or sexual assault in adult or childhood. The majority of people who experience or witness a life threatening event will return to normal given a little time. However, some people will have stress reactions that do not go away on their own, or may even get worse over time. PTSD is complicated by the fact that people with PTSD often may develop additional disorders such as depression, substance abuse, problems of memory and cognition, and other problems of physical and mental health. Tune in to this segment of The NLP View Radio Show, as host, Donna Blinston,R.N. is joined by expert, Dr. Richard Gray to discuss his research on NLP as it pertains to PTSD
