    CODEPINK is a women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement. Founded by Madea Benjamin and Jodie Evans CODEPINK is eager to see mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and daughters, female workers, students, teachers, healers, artists, writers, singers, poets and all outraged woman  rise up and oppose the global militarism. Medea Benjamin, Jodie Evans, Diane Wilson, Starhawk and about 100 other women kicked off CODEPINK on November 17, 2002. A 4-month all-day vigil in front of the White House during the cold of winter.The vigil inspired people from all walks of life, and from all over the country, to stand for peace. Many joined the vigil culminating on International Women's Day, encircling the White House in pink. CODEPINK National Coordinator Alli McCracken stops by to speak about the isues she is passionate about. Drone Warfare, Iraq, Iran, Gaza, Justice and the Military Industrial Complex. Her latest book is  Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control, and she has been campaigning to stop the use of killer drones.     How did a satirically named small women-led organization become a force for criticizing US foreign policy and a leader in the peace movement? Hear CODEPINK's story through the lens of one of its longtime members and current staffer, Janet Weil , who is also a military family member with a loved one in the Marine Corps. Janet will talk about her personal experiences as a peace activist, CODEPINK's history, and the Bring Our War $$ Home campaign she's working on. She will share stories of women around the US and the world working to end war and redirect our resources toward life-affirming projects. Janet Weil , a member of CODEPINK since 2003, works with local groups and online activists, and answers the "info" emailbox. She is active in the Bring Our War $$ Home and Ground the Drones campaigns, and represents CODEPINK to the Afghanistan working group of United for Peace and Justice. Janet enjoys connecting with local groups in the Bay Area, loves to travel (especially to the Southwest), and is a published poet.
