Clint Dempsey: 'Faith in Christ Gives me Confidence for the Future'

    in Soccer

He is an American soccer player who plays for the Seattle Sounders in Major League Soccer. He is the captain of the United States national team. As a teenager, he played for one of the top youth soccer clubs in the state, the Dallas Texans, before playing for Furman University's men's soccer team. In 2004, he was drafted by Major League Soccer club New England Revolution. Between 2007 and 2012, he played for Premier League team Fulham and is the club's highest Premier League goal scorer of all time. He also became the first American player to score a hat-trick in the English Premier League, in the 5–2 win over Newcastle United in January 2012.

He first represented the United States at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship in the United Arab Emirates. And in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he scored the team's only goal of the tournament. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he scored against England, becoming only the second American to score goals in multiple World Cup tournaments. In the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he beat his previous record, making the fifth fastest goal in World Cup history. He and his team are currently playing in the World Cup in Brazil.

In an interview with Christian Today, he said that his faith did not become active and real to him until after his sister died from a brain aneurysm. He said, "Her death triggered all kinds of questions about why some things happen and what role God played in it all. For a number of years, I struggled and put distance between God and me. But He was faithful and patient and provided gradual healing and strength." When he went to college and got into Bible study, his faith became more real to him...

    His name is Clint Dempsey.

Talking in Circles: Tony Stewart Retirement; Furniture Row Racing to Toyota

    in Sports

On tonight's episode we talk about the biggest story of the 2015 season, and it has nothing to do with what's going on on the racetrack. Wednesday afternoon, 3 time Series Champion, Tony Stewart announced that the 2016 season will be his last in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. We will bring on John Harlow from BeyondTheFlag.com to talk about Stewart's legacy, what lead to the decision, the future for Stewart-Haas Racing and also about Tony's future as he will continue racing in other formats.

We'll also discuss that Clint Bowyer will move into the number 14 in 2017, which will have him spend the 2016 season at HScott Motorsports.

We'll also talk about the race in New Hampshire and strategy for some teams, as it seemed to have bitten a couple of Championship contenders in the rear end. We'll talk about those contenders and give our predictions on who we think will move on to the next round and still be in it at Charlotte in 2 weeks.

We'll also discuss how NASCAR will have an increased restart zone and how that may affect the Championship race, after Brad Keselowski was penalized for jumping the start in New Hampshire. As we'll give our opinions on that, and preview the AAA 400 at Dover Downs.

Also, we'll take your phone calls at 917-889-8280

Boxing History - Heavyweight's Biggest Ever Punchers

    in Sports

After more than two years of carrying on this Mickey Mouse operation, we've decided to add a new feature to the show! Apart from our usual pre-fight and post-fight discussions, Aris Pina of Compubox will join Patrick Connor of The Fight City for some boxing history discussion.

In our inaugural episode, in honor of Deontay Wilder's upcoming defense of the WBC heavyweight belt against Johann Duhaupas, the fight history nerds discuss the list of the biggest punchers the heavyweight division has ever seen. While Wilder still has much to prove, his 34-0 record that includes 33 knockouts shouldn't be quickly dismissed.

Who are heavyweight's biggest punchers? Do any heavyweights of recent years compare to the hardest punchers ever? Would would reign supreme among them?

To ask questions, offer up comments or ideas...

The Race Trim MotorSports Hour #38

    in Sports

September brings the countdown not only to Autumn but also to motorsports, and this Sunday you're going to want to swing by the Frat House Sports Garage for the Race Trim MotorSports Hour, coming to you LIVE from 12-1 pm.

Last week ago in NASCAR we saw Matt Kenseth win his 4th race and the Chase for the Sprint Cup moves into its official countdown mode with 16 pilots and 10-to-go. Likewise in NHRA, the Countdown to the Championship heats are running at the 8th Annual NHRA Carolina Nationals, with just 5 events left after this weekend. Oh yeah, this is the most wonderful time of of the racing year!

UncleMark will be your host for an hour of fun and FAST recap on how the landscape looks now as stock cars invade the 1.5-mile confines of Chicagoland Speedway. There's lots of questions, too. Can TRD keep pace with the rules package? Is there another Ryan Newman to replace last year's Ryan Newman? Which Busch brother has the best chance to make the finale at Homestead-Miami in November? Have an opinion? Call in!

Jump 'over the pit wall' with a couple late-breaking stories including: Why did JJ only sign a 2-year deal with HMS, and does it mean anything? Also: Aaron's is OUT as a ride sponsor; crew members make it a 'team' let's not forget and the Ward family just doesn't get it yet, do they?

Get trimmed-up and tricked-out tomorrow and bring your opinions, too! Holler-in at: 347-826-9964 from Noon til 1 pm this Sunday.

Joy Keys chats with Actress Margaret Avery from Being Mary Jane about Lupus

    in Current Events

Special Guest:  Margaret Avery moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career in 1968. In 1973 her Los Angeles Drama Circle Award-winning performance in the play “Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?” caught the attention of Clint Eastwood and he quickly cast her in his film “Magnum Force”, serving as an entree for guest starring roles in numerous episodic T.V. shows and Blaxploitation films including “Scott Joplin”, “The Lathe of Heaven”, “The Return of Superfly” and “Heatwave”. She eventually got cast in her most widely recognized Academy-Award nominated role as Shug Avery in Steven Spielberg’s “The Color Purple”.

She is a new public advocate for continued Lupus research and education through the Lupus Foundation of America; a cause preempted by personally knowing individuals living with Lupus as well as playing a character who suffers from the disease on BET's Being Mary Jane. http://www.margaretaveryonline.com

Special Guest: Annette Myarick is the CEO for the Lupus Foundation of America’s (LFA) Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter. Prior to joining the LFA in 1991, she was with the Arthritis Foundation’s Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter for 14 years, most recently as the Vice President for Public Health Strategies. Annette has a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health Education from Temple University.
