Louie Miller is the director of the Mississippi Chapter of the Sierra Club, which has been working to protect the health of communities and the environment in the Magnolia State for more than two decades. Louie has led cutting-edge campaigns and has built powerful, diverse coalitions of community groups, working with some of the South’s most celebrated community and environmental justice advocates in the process.
Miller has earned national attention for his work challenging Mississippi Power’s Kemper County coal plant, the only coal plant to break ground during the Obama Administration and likely the last coal plant that will ever be built in the United States. From the beginning, Louie challenged the plant for being “dirty, expensive, and unnecessary.”
Louie lives outside Jackson, Miss., on a farm with several beloved dogs and enjoys trips to the beach with his family.
Kenneth E. LaRoe
In 2009, Mr. LaRoe opened First Green Bank, the first bank with an environmental mission in the eastern United States. He is the largest shareholder, CEO and Chairman. In 1999, Mr. LaRoe founded Florida Choice Bank and was its largest shareholder, Chairman, CEO, and President. He grew the bank to over $400 million in assets by 2006 when the bank was sold to Alabama National Bancorp.
Mr. LaRoe began his career with Flagship Bank in Tavares, Florida and rose to the position of vice president and branch manager. He joined SouthTrust Bank in Deland, Florida in 1987 as senior lender and rose to county executive for Lake County. In 1996 Mr. LaRoe joined Colonial Bank as president of the Lake County bank and was instrumental in the conversion of a troubled thrift to a viable commercial bank. He has served on numerous civic and non-profit boards including: The Sunrise ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens), BankServe, and The Florida Bankers Association.He served as chairman of Group 5 of the Florida Bankers Association and also as chairman of Florida BankPac. He is a member of the Florida Bar Association, and the Lake County Bar Association.
A committed environmentalist, he served as chairman of Preserve Lake, a political action committee instrumental in passing a bond referendum for $36 million to purchase public land. He also served as chairman of the PLAAC (Public Lands Acquisition advisory Committee).
Born, raised, and schooled in Eustis, Florida, where First Green Bank is located, Mr. LaRoe earned a B. S. in management at Florida State University and a J.D. at The University of Florida College of Law. Mr. LaRoe is also a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP).

Ralph has been involved in the roofing and building industry since 1978 and renewable technologies since 1999 .In his career, he has re-roofed millions of square feet in the Industrial, Commercial, Institutional and Governmental sectors all over North America. His passion for sustainability was formed from his early ideals of stewardship, minimalism and legacy, sharpened by five years in the late 80's and early 90's, working in sub-sahara Africa.
Ralph is one of the industry's early innovators in the green roof industry. He developed the GreenSave calculator, the green roof industry's first financial benefit calculator and was part of the ASTM sub-committee that wrote the first five national ASTM standards for green roofs. He completed the first ever green roof installation on a Presidential Library, with the completion of the William Jefferson Clinton Library in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2008 and an award winning design on the National Institutes of Health, in Bethsesda, MD Involved in distributed solar since 2008, Ralph developed over 3.5 mW of rooftop solar during the throngs of the great recession, from 2008-2010,
From 2010-2012, Ralph was the Executive Director for Sustainability for a global roofing manufacturer, responsible for all policy and strategic sustainability initiatives, world-wide. In late 2012, Ralph, along with his wife, formed Ark Investments to focus on micro investment opportunities in sustainability, in rural and local communities. To date investments have been made in sustainable animal husbandry, music and land development. Earlier this spring, Ralph joined NWES, as the Sr. Director of Business Development to again pursue the idea of rooftop solar, this time with a ROI financial focus.
Jennette Gayer coordinates policy development, research, and legislative advocacy for Environment Georgia. She is based in Atlanta and organizes around a number of issues to bring cleaner air, water and open spaces to Georgia.
She serves on the board of Citizens for Progressive Transit, a statewide group dedicated to increasing public transportation, and is a member of the Beltline Tax Advisory District Advisory Council.
Previously, she directed field campaigns to build a million solar roofs and cap global warming for Environment Georgia's sister organization, Environment California. She also worked as a Consumer Advocate with CALPIRG, where she sat on the state of California's Bureau of Automotive Repair and helped to found Angelenos for Equitable Access to Technology a media reform community group.
Ms. Gayer grew up in Virginia and graduated from the College of William and Mary.
Matthew Stepp is Executive Director of ITIF’s Center for Clean Energy Innovation (CCEI). Matthew researches, analyzes and comments on a number of issues related to climate and energy policy, including innovation ecosystems, renewable energy, carbon pricing, deployment subsidies, the Department of Energy, ARPA-E, and the role of states in energy innovation.
He has testified before Congress and his work has appeared in various news and media outlets including the Washington Post, the New York Times, MIT Technology Review, National Journal, and NPR. He is also a regular columnist for The Hill and The Energy Collective.
The kick-off episode for Season 2 will be a reversing of the tables, as Zachary Shahan, Director of CleanTechnica, will be interviewing TalkSolar host, Beth Bond, who is a self-proclaimed solar geek and knowledgeable about solar policy in Georgia specifically and in the Southeast generally.
CleanTechnica and TalkSolar are starting the second season of TalkSolar today with the announcement of a new partnership. TalkSolar started broadcasting in April 2013, interviewing industry leaders such as Rhone Resch, CEO of Solar Energy Industries Association; Minh Le, Director of the Solar Energy Technologies Office, Department of Energy; and corporate Sustainability Directors from General Motors and Honda. Other guests included solar installers, manufacturers, and marketing leaders within the solar industry. With the rapid deployment of solar PV charging of electric vehicles, TalkSolar also discussed the synergy between those two emerging technologies.

Bob Stojanovic, Director of Solar Power for ABB North America, is responsible for driving the company’s North American solar market strategy and sales. In this role, Stojanovic works with various ABB divisions and business units, to help develop strategy as well as market and deliver solutions ranging from discrete components to complex turnkey systems. He has interaction with a diverse customer base composed of the following; distributors, contractors, OEM, developers, Independent Power Producers and Utilities. He has been with ABB since 1999 over the years he has served in various roles as district or regional manager for low voltage drives, low voltage products, and industrial power products and power systems. As the solar electric power market continues to grow, Bob and his team focus on bringing intelligent, efficient and bankable solutions to the North American Solar Power market. He holds an MBA from Loyola Marymount University and a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from The University of Western Ontario.
Zan Dubin-Scott is president of ZDS Communications, a public relations and marketing agency specializing in sustainability and the environment. Dubin-Scott launched the agency after a decade as a Los Angeles Times staff writer (and five years as a full-time correspondent for the paper). As a co-founding board member of Plug In America and the organization’s communications director, she sustains its position as the nation’s leading source of independent, expert information and opinion about the global plug-in electric vehicle industry. She launched, co-conceived, planned, executed and publicized, in partnership with Plug In America and the Sierra Club, National Drive Electric Week, an annual showcase promoting plug-in vehicles. The event drew tens of thousands of attendees to separate events in nearly 100 cities for its third iteration in 2013.
