  • Calling to Islam

    in Islam

[The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away. No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]?" The Prophet said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing." But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]." Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe? And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know.  Quran 21: 1-7

power of perception pro wrestling with Del "The Patriot" Wilkes

    in Spirituality

Begind the mask" Del "The Patriot" Wilkes is the story of my life. We cover my life growing up in S.C. We also go in depth about my college football background at The Unv. of S.C. I am one of only four Consensus All Americans to ever play for the Gamecocks. I was captain and MVP of the 1984 team, which was the first team in school history to win 10 games in a season. We go into detail about my love for pro wrestling as a young boy, and how that eventually turned into a career. There are several of the guys that I wrestled with through out my career that are in the documentary. Guys like Stan Hansen, Marcus Bagwell, Greg Gagne, Jackie and Bobby Fulton, Bruce Prichard, Bill Apter and many more. We cover my time with the AWA as the Trooper, and my time with the GWF,AJPW,WCW,and WWF as The Patriot. We discuss my reasons for leaving one company to go to the next opportunity. The Bret Hart fued in the WWF is the most famous one in my career, and we also cover that in great detail. The injuries that brought my career to an end are talked about as well as the dependency to pain meds in trying to deal with the injuries. That addiction would eventually lead to some major issues with law enforcement, which then lead to me being sent to prison. But, this also a story of redemption, and how God gave me the help in turning my life around to be the man I am today.

Dr. Stanton Peele on overcoming an addiction with values and self-determination

    in Psychology

Amy Alkon's Advice Goddess Radio: "Nerd Your Way To A Better Life!" with the best brains in science.

*"Best Of" replay for Thanksgiving weekend.

Stanton Peele points out that most people recover from addictions on their own -- without AA or rehab, and what makes the difference is values, not biology.

On tonight’s show, he’ll debunk many of the myths in addiction treatment -- especially the notion that addiction is a “disease” people are powerless to overcome. That defeatest message is especially counterproductive to overcoming addiction, and it’s been supported with bad science and hearsay. Join us tonight to hear what solid science says about how addiction or bad habits can be overcome -- to the point where people are not just going cold-turkey off some substance or behavior till their next relapse, but where they develop meaningful ways of coping that no longer have them turning to their old crutch.

Peele’s book we’ll be discussing is Recover! Stop Thinking Like an Addict and Reclaim Your Life with The PERFECT Program.

Join me and all my fascinating guests every Sunday, 7-8 p.m. PT, 10-11 p.m. ET, at blogtalkradio.com/amyalkon or subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher.

Please order my new book, the science-based and funny "Good Manners For Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck," -- only about $11 at Amazon.

Turning Up The Gospel With Lady T, Pamela K, Tarisha Gilmore, and Tasha Wilson

    in Christianity

Tasha M. Wilson is a native of Easton, MD who is an author and motivational speaker who relentlessly pursues God and loves sharing with others how much He has transformed her life. Her book "Who Am I When Everything is Silent?" is a book on self-discovery in which readers are able to view the essence of life's journey through her multi-faceted lens. She recently founded a movement called Royalty Refined, which is devoted to helping young women discover and affirm the treasure that's within while walking into their God given destiny through the utilization of discussion based workshops, social events and community outreach.

Tarisha Gilmore, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida serving as a wife, mother, friend, mentor, author, poet and above all a Woman of God(W.O.G.). I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at a very early age and shortly after accepted Gods calling to be a minister of his word. I am committed to serving God and believe in the power of prayer. I am devoted to my purpose to serve women and the youth. Being a crusader for Education in the Maryland Public School System, I founded the after school tutoring program, Parents And Teachers Helping Students (P.A.T.H.S.) and Parents Raising Achievement In Students Education (P.R.A.I.S.E.).

Pamela K. Before she understood the rudiments of music, Pamela K was singing. Before she understood the power of her voice, Pamela K was singing. Before she understood the magnitude of her gifting Pamela K was reaching others with her voice one song at a time. This gift or calling is her destiny leading her into path where she is fully committed to reaching a wide audience with songs designed to bring hope, healing, joy and peace to those who will have the privilege to be graced by her voice.
