Benjamin Scott Allen discusses how loss shows up for the person who is chronically ill or terminal.
This show is about healing loss. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, a relationship, a job, or a dream, we find ourselves lost in another world. What was before no longer is. This is the world of the Afterloss.
It is our goal to share this world together and to help each other navigate this new experience. We are here to explore what was lost and what is left, and find a new way to relate to both. Loss is a part of life, and we all deal it differently.
Benjamin is the author of Out of the Ashes, Healing in the AfterLoss. This book is about profound loss and forging a new path after his loved ones died.
When we give ourselves permission to lean into loss, this unique process of healing finds its own time and rhythm. There are parts of the Afterloss that only you know and only you can travel, but everyone who has experienced loss in one form or another knows the path has many footprints that can lead us into healing. We are not alone.
Your hosts Benjamin Allen and Deborah Brown will share their journeys through grief into healing and create a container for others to explore, define and lean into loss of all kinds. We meet here and now on the path to the rest of our lives, at the intersection of Loss and Hope ... may we all be blessed by sharing what we have lived and learned.

November is National Family Caregivers Month. According to the Caregiver Action Network, about 29% of the U.S. population will provide care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aged family member or friend during a given year, spending an average of 20 hours a week providing care. On this show, we'll discuss the issue of caregiving, why it's so important for caregivers to take time for themselves, and the ways in which men and women differ when it comes to what each needs. No calls - listen only mode.
It is often very hard to end a love relationship even when you know it is bad for you. A “bad” relationship is not the kind that is going through the usual periods of disagreement and disenchantment that are inevitable when two separate people come together. A bad relationship is one that involves continual frustration; the relationship seems to have potential but that potential is always just out of reach. In fact, the attachment in such relationships is to someone who is “unattainable” in the sense that he or she is committed to someone else, doesn’t want a committed relationship, or is incapable of one. Bad relationships are chronically lacking in what one or both partners need. Such relationships can destroy self-esteem and prevent those involved from moving on in their careers or personal lives. They are often fertile breeding grounds for loneliness, rage, and despair. In bad relationships the two partners are often on such different wave-lengths that there is little common ground, little significant communication, and little enjoyment of each other.Remaining in a bad relationship not only causes continual stress but may even be physically harmful. An obvious harm is the physical abuse that is often a part of such relationships. In a less obvious way, however, the tensions and chemical changes caused by the constant stress can drain energy and lower resistance to physical illness. Continuing in such bad relationships can lead to unhealthy escapes such as alcohol or drug abuse and can even lead to suicide attempts.
In such relationships, individuals are robbed of several essential freedoms; the freedom to be their best selves in the relationship, the freedom to love the other person through choice rather than through dependency, and the freedom to leave a situation that is destructive.
George grew up in a very musical home, his mother was a gifted opera singer and his dad played jazz piano and upright bass. At age 24, George’s musical aspirations and life was permanently altered through several events that led to his “becoming a Christian on purpose”. Jesus introduced Himself to George!
Almost immediately he became involved in ministry. Over time the Lord refined George as he served in various churches and ministries as a worship leader/musician, youth leader, counselor, and evangelist.
In 1988 God brought about an opportunity for George to build and run a world-class recording studio for a local church. There he recorded and produced many local, national and a few world-renowned Christian artists and ministries.
In 1993 George ventured out himself as a Christian singer / songwriter. He recorded an ill-fated but nationally distributed CD called “Walls of Freedom”. He toured locally and regionally sharing the stage with several well-known Christian artists of that time.
Late in 1994 the call to a different ministry became apparent. George began attending Calvary Chapel of Old Bridge New Jersey, and though he served minimally with the worship team and in their recording studio he was absolutely enamored with – and heavily influenced by verse by verse through the bible teaching. This led to him being ordained and serving to this day as pastor and worship leader of Calvary Chapel of Montclair New Jersey.
Music has never ceased to be a part of George’s life and ministry, he is now recording and releasing worship songs written and used at Calvary Montclair over the years, and he has plans to release a new contemporary Christian music CD later in the year.

Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.
~ Ezekiel 24:5
And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?
Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;
Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.
Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.
~ Micah 3:1-4
Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.
Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.
~ Micah 3:5-7
