A growing body of research suggests that massage or manual therapy can be an important part of effective pain management. This research data, and the experience of physicians, massage therapists and patients, is encouraging people in pain to consider incorporating massage therapy into their pain management programs. To help us better understand this research and the growing role of manual therapy in in the management of pain, we'll be speaking with registered massage therapist, Michael Reoch. Michael Reoch is an active Registered Massage Therapist in BC, and owner of Well+Able Integrative Health. Michael sits on the Massage Therapists' Association of BC (MTABC) board, and is Chair of the MTABC Communications Committee. As a Board Director and Committee Chair, Michael promotes the ideals and the brand of the Association, and disseminates information through communications to current and prospective members, the media, the health care industry and the general public. Michael is also the Chair of the MTABC-sponsored Professional Practice Group for Pain Management: a group of RMTs who have a special interest in studying pain as pathology, and using that knowledge to best treat patients whose primary complaint is pain. Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes muscle pain and fatigue (feeling tired). People with fibromyalgia have “tender points” on the body. Tender points are specific places on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms, and legs. These points hurt when pressure is put on them.
People with fibromyalgia may also have other symptoms, such as:
Painful menstrual periods
Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
Problems with thinking and memory (sometimes called “fibro fog”).
A person may have two or more coexisting chronic pain conditions. Such conditions can include chronic fatigue syndrome, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, inflammatory bowel disease, interstitial cystitis, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and vulvodynia. It is not known whether these disorders share a common cause.

Known as the Father of Chronic Pain Elimination, Professor/Dr. Rothbart uses his 40 years experience as a physician and researcher, his passion for medicine, his forward-thinking and commitment to explore new approaches to help people suffering from chronic musculoskeletal pain to get their life back. Because of his perseverance, he has developed new therapies that are much more effective that what previously existed. He has proven results where others have failed.
Professor/Dr. Rothbart has advanced the understanding of how the foot structure is linked to the development of chronic musculoskeletal pain. On five continents he introduced the use of Proprioceptive Therapy to eliminate chronic muscle and joint pain problems. Due to the global demand for his therapy, he later invented tests and analyses to treat patients long distance.
Before his work, there was no such thing as chronic pain elimination; it was all chronic pain management. Because he looks at areas where there is no understanding, because he always wants to learn more, because he does things that have never been done, people who in the past could never be helped, can now be successfully treated.
Professor/Dr. Rothbart has an international practice in Portugal where he treats people from all over the world using Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy. Due to the demand for his therapy, for those who cannot travel to his office, he has also developed a highly successful approach - Long Distance Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy - to treat patients via long distance. No matter where you are in the world, Professor/Dr. Rothbart may be able to help you.
