Next year there will be elections for Chief of the Choctaw Nation. Anyone new going to run, anyone believe that you cannot change a corrupt system embedded by the federal government? Anyone have ideas to remove the disease affecting our Nation. Is anyone within the Nation listening as we discuss our thoughts and strategies? Just how far will they go to circumvent and undermine positive change for the people.
We'll begin to explore these thoughts and discussion on the next program of Eaglemanz: Chahta Nation!
Discussion and thoughts from the Choctaw Tribal Council meeting at Tushkahoma (2/8/14).
This was my first council meeting, and I feel that they could have elaborated more on the reasoning behind their votes. Most of the discussion took place earlier in the week. Maybe we need to work to amend the rules outlining how business is undertaken. Thoughts and opinions from our people would be important.
We'll also talk about a very important issue, aiding Native prisoners upon their release from prison. An issue where I arose up out of the ashes and came out of prison fighting.
Since we have been on-air, we have discussed the issues we see within the Chahta Nation and looked at ways to resolve it. With Tushkahoma taking place next weekend and Chahta's from around the country attending, we should have been having more of this discussion earlier. The guest for this show is Stephanie Crowder, a Chahta woman whose heart is for what is best for her people.
We have seen that Mike Bailey has began utilizing social media for his bid for Chief, who else is going to step up to offer them selves to the people? Candidates will file next year, and hopefully we can be effectively organized that we can sit the candidates down to listen to what we want and need. And I intend to be one of those candidates. That is of no suprise to anyone who has been listening to my show, following my posts on Facebook or blog.
Its been said that I would have no chance of winning, however, the point is to demonstrate that I will try in spite of the odds. The least I expect is that people will begin to look at issues in a different way, people will assert their responsibilities as Chahta people. It isn't about power, that is a Nahullo word for control. The voices will have to begin to shake the flimsy foundation created through the federal government. We need a true Nation whose priority is our culture, spirituality, language and lands. So maybe I may not win, but do many of you believe in prayer? Do you believe amazing things can happen. I do!
Join us for a few hours so that we can begin coming together, we can only have a unified front if our voices come together and through that our prayers can come through. And if you plan on attending Tushkahoma next weekend, look for us there!

From time to time, I see this issue raised and before the dust settles, feelings are hurt, people feel misunderstood and nothing is resolved. However, suppose to issue is not about blood quantum, but something more important and larger than this, which doesn't leave any room to point fingers at another since it calls into question, what are we as individuals doing about this. It seems the puppet masters behind the curtains of the federal government has played this hand well which only serve to create divisions. Especially at a time when we need to come together. This came up in a meeting today, and could be a critical hurdle in discussions around the country as to who is an Indian or Native. If this is what stops us from making progress, then it is time we exmine this issue and see if it how we should look at it, or is there another way that could be effective in bring about healing. Here's a blog that I wrote a few years ago related to this issue: http://eaglemanz.blogspot.com/2012/04/defining-our-confiscated-identities.html
Tomorrow, it is expected to rain and I have difficulties in broadcasting during thunderstorms. If I have to postpone the show, we may follow up during the week. Thanks for everyones support and I appreciate all who listens in. Just keep sharing with other Chahta's! Yakoke!

This Sunday, we will be discussing the need for cultural/spiritual opportunities in this countries prisons, and a need for transitional support upon release of our relatives. Ever since the first sweat lodge appeared behind prison walls in Nebraska in the early 70's, this issue has been well litigated in state and federal courts. Even Amnesty International has examined these cases.
In 1982, the warden at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary compared Native culture/spirituality to the Aryan Brotherhood and the Ku Klux Klan in denying permission to form a cultural group as mandated by court orders. By the 90's, sweat lodge was allowed at many prisons, and the right to wear long hair had been fought and won, but the real battle remains. What is there for Native prisoners upon their release?
In the past ten years the Muscogee Nation has began their Reintegration program and others have began to develop their own. This week I met with the Choctaw Nation and was asked to begin to gather information and data to create a program for reintegration. For myself, this was a milestone in my life as I had asked the Choctaw Nation to do this 30 years ago.
We all have families, loved ones and friends in prison. We hope the best for them upon their release, but it is a long road back with a type of PTSD from existing in months - years within a violent and dangerous environment. Employment becomes difficult without marketable skills and coping without life skills makes it stressful that sometimes one just gives up and resorts to old habits that reduces a sense of self-worth.
We'll discuss these and many other issues in the two hours we have this weekend. Plan to listen in and share with your friends!

Join Elusive1 & Henry May as they welcome back to the show David Moomey & returningguest Jim Whitehead . Jim has lived his entire life in the crosstimbers of McClain county in an area with a local legend about a monster that roams the creek. He grew up hearing of his families encounters with the creature. He always had a love of science and dad and grandpa taught him about the woods in the old choctaw ways. He went on to go to college, getting degrees in Biology, and Natural science.. He ran into a bigfoot one day in the bottoms and decided to learn more about the creature, turning his skills as a woodsman/ tracker and as a biologist to researching bigfoot. After independently researching bigfoot for about a year, Jim joined the MABRC and as the membership in the western region of Oklahoma grew, the group decided to promote him as the Western State Director in 2009, And he has held the position ever since. The primary goal of the MABRC Western Oklahoma Team is not necessarily finding proof, but rather studying these creatures and learning about their behaviors and needs. Daveid Grew up in central Okla, He joined the Marines when he completed High School. Moved back after 4 yrs, He didnt know he had these things around him growing up but after he started researching he realized they were there while he was growing up and it all exsplains why he alwasy was scared when he went into the woods. He take his 2 younget boys out with him alot of the times to research, they are getting really good. He has with the MABRC for almost 3 yrs now and he does research with Jim when ever he can.
