Interview With Author Ronald L. Allen on His Book "The Evolution of Bid Whist"

    in Writing

Ronald Allen is the author of “The Evolution of Bid Whist-150 Years in the Growth of an African American Tradition.”  This new book is quickly becoming a definitive benchmark for Bid Whist players across the nation.  Allen has been researching the origin of the game for several years, and was quite amazed to discover an extensive relationship between the game and the African American community dating back to the 1860’s.

Bid Whist, closely related to Bridge, evolved from a game played by slaves to a game with an expanded following in many countries, thanks to the efforts of African Americans such as the Pullman Porters who took the game “up north.”  This non-fiction writing by Allen not only explains the history of the game, but also includes the games’ rules, variations and strategies.

    Kevin Stabinsky,"Pearls Before Swine"

    in Books

I became interested in writing during my freshman year in college (fall 1998). I was deeply involved in playing Ancient Anguish, a text- based fantasy multi-user dimension (MUD) game. One of the perks of completing enough quests in the game was the opportunity to become a coder for the game.

The joy at seeing my creation come to life got me interested in the creative process, so I decided to pursue a degree in creative writing from Penn State University. I joined the Penn State Schuylkill Campus Collegiate staff, interned at PA Business Central and Voices of Central Pennsylvania, and became a summer correspondent for the Pottsville Republican.

In Dec. 2002, I graduated from Penn State University with a B.A., English, with an emphasis in nonfiction writing. Following graduation, I enlisted in the Army as a print journalist. During my roughly 6 years in the Army, I covered multiple story types (sports, hard news, features), earning several awards. My work has appeared in multiple newspapers worldwide to include Military.com (readership: 6,023,048); Stars and Stripes, Washington, DC (readership: 1,000,000); and the Associated Press, New York, NY. One of my stories, Girl Waits for Second Chance to See, made the front cover of Stars and Stripes.

My work in the Army garnered me numerous awards, including the 2007 U.S. Army Forces Command runner-up Journalist of the Year (one of the top 14 journalists Army wide), 2005 Installation Management Southwest Region Journalist of the Year (one of the top seven journalists Army-wide). Other individual Army awards include editor of the 2007 top Army field publication, second place in 2007 for story series, and second place in 2006 for feature articles.

I am also a graduate of the Christian Writers Guild and have had work published in devotionals such as Soul Journey.

Personal Interview with author Cindy Schroppel

    in Spirituality

This evening your host Evangelist Montell Fields will welcome author Cindy Schroppel to the show.

    Cindy Schroppel - Ministry Bio

On January 2, 1990, Cindy Schroppel very innocently committed her life to Christ as a New Year's resolution.  However, God completely captured her heart, and her life has never been the same since.  Cindy has a passion for Jesus and a great love of teaching His Word.

She served in Sealy, Texas as a worship minister for 17 years.  Her gift of teaching has been utilized in the area of adult and women's Bible studies, leading and teaching a healing school and ministering at women's retreats.

Oversight and ordination are obtained through World Ministry Fellowship where she served on the Advisory Board .

Ministry activities include serving as a spiritual director of the Walk to Emmaus Community, a non-ecumenical ministry to the body of Christ.  Her strong teaching gift is complimented with her heart of compassion and mercy, which was also utilized in her vocation as a hospice chaplain, where she led people to Jesus in their greatest hour of need.

In 2012 God called her to write her first Christian fiction novel, Skandalon.

Cindy has a fire burning within her to see the body maturing in their relationship with Christ, having a greater spiritual hunger with a deeper knowledge of His Word and a greater understanding of the unconditional love He has for them.  She longs to see believers healed, delivered and set free growing in the strength of the Lord as they journey into the fulfillment of their destiny and purpose.
