MADLYN BIO: In 2010, I had my first song "Suddenly" placed in the indie film "Elena Undone," a movie I also played a supporting character in. I've also been blessed to have other artistic opportunities including writing songs for other artists such as European pop star Suzanna Lubrano, recording title tracks for films like the indie movie "Wheels," appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! singing background vocals for bands like Youngblood Hawke, and recording vocals for bands, most recently for latest Thirty Seconds to Mars album, "LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS." I've also been able to co-write with some pretty amazing peeps, including the legendary Billy Steinberg and Ken Hirsch. I love to perform live, and do so as often as possible at various venues throughout the US, both as a solo vocal/piano performer, as well as with my other awesome band members.
KATHRYN DEAN BIO: Armed with her unique perspective, musical integrity and soul bearing vocals, Kathryn Dean’s distinct sound has immense depth and intelligence both lyrically and musically. Living in the south, with all its charms, traditions and iconography does not offer access into certain aspects of her history, especially when that history involves discussions around the Civil War and the Confederacy. The inability to rake through the smoldering ashes of a war fought 150 years ago, allows for a one-sided narrative that sometimes misrepresents the causes for war, the people - enslaved and free - who lived through the war and and its aftermath. Although it is a necessary, and some might add, long overdue undertaking, it is also anxiety ridden, especially within the black community.
How can parents of color approach this subject and explain to their children a war fought over, among other things, a system of that relegated their ancestors to permanent servitude?
Today, the Mommy Chronicles is on site as the Alabama State University Department of History and Political Science explores those issues by examining the Civil War history at its first Confederate Memorial Day "Mini" Conference.

Did you attend Parenting University? Do you feel empowered as a parent to raise happy, healthy children- body, mind and spirit? Do you feel prepared to handle the challenges that come with parenting your children?
If the answer is a big NO to all of the above, then join us Tuesday April 28th 11 am ET as host Estra Roell interviews cohost Kathleen Martin about how you can become an' Empowered Parent'.
Educators and child psychologists have long known that self-esteem, self-image and personality characteristics are formed early in a child's development.
During this enlightened conversation, Kathleen will be sharing parenting skills you can begin to use immediatly to help you to feel confident as a parent; reveal key beliefs that your children already have that are causing difficulties and ways you can 'reshape' and 'replace' these beliefs to help encourage positive qualities in a child's life, enhancing their ability to function in their environment with confidence, esteem and self love.
To become 'Empowered Parents', it is vitally important to be aware of our own beliefs, behaviors and parenting patterns that are contributing to the challenges that happen on our parenting journey. By becoming aware and then changing these ineffective patterns through deliberate empowered words and actions, you will positively effect the harmony of the family as a whole.
The future of our planet depends upon 'Empowered Parents' who have the skills to raise emotionally strong, happy, conscious children who are know the value they bring to their family, community and world.
