In celebration of Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, Robert Ferguson is beginning a campaign that rallies us all together to reverse childhood obesity. This is a great opportunity for grandparents, parents and guardians to come together and establish a platform for a brighter future for our youth. We are also looking for type 2 diabetics that would like to be part of a national trial to eradicate type 2 diabetes. If you know anyone that has type 2 diabetes, encourage them to listen to this show.
Today we are facing an epidemic among our children and adolecents. Obesity has more than quadrupled in the last 30 years and so have the related health conditions: juvenile diabetes, high cholestoral, joint problems, emotional trouble. Why did this happen...what are the contributing factors? How can we stop this or can we? These are some of the questions I will address on tonights show. I hope you can tune in tonight and help me discuss such an important issue facing not only our country but our society as we continue to grow more global
Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents. It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age and height.
Childhood obesity is particularly troubling because the extra pounds often start children on the path to health problems that were once confined to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Childhood obesity can also lead to poor self-esteem and depression.
One of the best strategies to reduce childhood obesity is to improve the diet and exercise habits of your entire family. Treating and preventing childhood obesity helps protect the health of your child now and in the future.
Not all children carrying extra pounds are overweight or obese. Some children have larger than average body frames. And children normally carry different amounts of body fat at the various stages of development. So you might not know just by looking at your child if his or her weight is a health concern.
Your child's doctor can help you figure out if your child's weight could pose health problems using growth charts and, if necessary, other tests.
When to see a doctor
If you're worried that your child is putting on too much weight, talk to his or her doctor. Your child's doctor will consider your child's individual history of growth and development, your family's weight-for-height history, and where your child lands on the growth charts. This can help determine if your child's weight is in an unhealthy range.

Obesity in our country has risen drastically since even two years ago, and more people are suffering from obesity-related ailments such as heart disease, strokes, Type 2 diabetes and heart attacks.
Juvenile obesity is on the rise, especially in much younger children, and many people believe that the parents of these children should be accused of neglect or abuse. Should parents be held accountable for their child's weight? Or is this yet another form of our government going too far in the family?
