Tonight's special guest is Larissa Clark from Houston, Texas, a returning NAASCA family member. Just 21 when she first joined us, Larissa was perhaps NAASCA's youngest family member and volunteer. We're delighted to give her this platform to re-introduce herself to our followers. Her abuser was her stepfather of 8 years, and started when she was 7 years old while the family was residing in Atlanta, GA. It continued after the family moved to Denver, CO. Larissa's nanny played a central role in recognizing the intervention she so desperately needed, identifying and interceding between the teenager and her perpetrator, who was caught when she was 14 years old. As Larissa explains, "My nanny helped me reach out to the law when the time was right, which allowed me to be able to put my stepfather in prison for life." She goes on to report, "I'm really blessed how the whole judicial system treated my family and me, all through the time of the arrest to the sentencing. They provided direct phone lines to get a hold of the DA or investigator." They also supplied a list of psychologist referrals to see, which jump-started her healing process. NAASCA's proud of Larissa's commitment to using her experiences to help other young people avoid, deal with, or recover from child abuse. "I am going to Denver in a couple of days to speak on behalf of Sungate kids organization," she says. "I plan to reach out to middle schools and high schools about abuse awareness in the near future." We are delighted to have Ms Clark lead our NAASCA efforts to reach out to this community, and plan to work with her to develop programs specifically designed to help both at-risk kids and young adult survivors of child abuse.
Back in the day, over 100 years ago, the average worker had no rights whatsoever! In some cases, a 60-72 hour a week job was commonplace. There were no Child Labor Laws. A man of 40 years of age could be working next to a child of 10 years of age. Many children barely completed six years of school. We at The Coffee Club would like to know what your views are...In today's society, what does Labor Day mean to you??? Call us at 646-595-3275; the coffee is optional.
In this busy busy world where there are many distractions to our parenting, such as mobile phones, television, conversations, exercising, work, housework, beauty treatments and lets not forget our friends, it is quicker and sometimes less demanding to take the easier choice in regard to our children. This may mean giving in when a child nags for something or simply not being present to their needs and putting on the television as a baby sitter. These things may bring instant peace and quiet to the home allowing the parent to get on with their tasks, but the question we ask today is how will this shape them as members of the human family, now and in the future? How can we have a win win so that parents and children get what they need. This show will be filled with practical solutions to the problems of everyday families like eating well, potty training, death in the family and when you feel that kids just won't listen.

Samiyyah Saafir-Muhammad was born Jacqueline Glover in New York City in 1951. After spending her early years in foster care, moving four times before the age of three, she settled in with her aunt, following her father’s passing.
While still in elementary school Samiyyah took an interest in helping other students do well, joining “The Future Teachers’ Club” in the fifth grade. As a high school student, Samiyyah became aware her people’s struggle for freedom—witnessing civil rights demonstrations, protests, assassinations and riots—and decided she wanted to help somehow. It was in this atmosphere that she went off to Northeastern University in Boston where she majored in Education. Her stay there was short-lived, however, as she was introduced to the teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad and thereafter joined the Nation of Islam. Within the Nation of Islam’s Muhammad University, Samiyyah underwent educational training and worked as a teacher’s assistant.
Since 2005, Samiyyah has had the privilege of serving as the Directress at Muhammad University of Islam in Atlanta, which serves students from Pre-K to the eighth grade. She has been blessed to carry on the 84-year educational tradition, which was started by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and his brave followers in the 1930’s.
A widow after 35 years of marriage, Samiyyah presently enjoys the blessing of her and her husband’s nine children: six sons and three daughters, all of whom attended or are attending HBCUs. Samiyyah has been a mother to not only her nine children, but also to her two stepchildren, her nieces and nephews, her eight grandchildren and countless other children and adults in the community who come to her for advice, wisdom and guidance. Affectionately called MamaMiyyah, Samiyyah’s house is never empty

"When a human being lives a life in which he or she enjoys freedom, justice and equality, awareness arises and one can focus on selfless giving - you qualify to be a parent because you are capable of the unconditional love that a parent has for a child.
But it is extremely difficult for Black people to get on and remain on this level, because we do not have freedom, justice and equality. We must give too much energy to the survival issues, which pull us down. This is why we cannot ignore our condition. Our freedom - or lack of - directly affects our ability to experience love and happiness in our community." Truth has come to you~

How do you go from having a traumatic experiences as a child/young adult to fulfilling a dream to having no home or job to having a dream job find you? This is some of the life that Sally-Anne Cast has experienced.
Sally-Anne Cast knew at the age of 16 that she wanted to work in the field of sign language. At 19 she achieved that goal, but it was not in a job that felt right. After a few years, she discovered she had another purpose—to be a wife and mother. Over the next 20 years, Sally-Anne focused on raising her four children (including one who was diagnosed at age 3 as being deaf). Even though Sally-Anne cut back her sign language career, she taught all of her children American Sign Language (ASL) as a second language.
After 25 years of marriage, Sally-Anne and her husband realized that it was not a situation they should continue. On July 15, 2012, Sally-Anne boarded a plane with her two minor children and six backpacks and travelled 3,000 miles from New York to California to begin a journey that she labels to be “of epic proportion.” After a year of spiritual growth, accompanied by a few challenges, including housing issues and not having a job, she now describes her life as living like Elmo from Sesame Street, living in a La La World. On Monday, Sept. 1, noon PDT/3 p.m. EDT/8 p.m. UK, she will she how it all came to be.
Join host Cindy Freeman on Mondays live at 12 noon PST/3 pm EST/8 pm UK with her guests who are living their life with a purpose and are willing to share with listeners how they got there and how others might benefit from their experience. It is time Americans take down the GOP veil of deceit and work once again to strengthen American Unions. Unions are responsible for everything good about working class Americans way of life. GOP lobbyist are responsible for everything that has contributed to the crushing of American unions. The top 1% of Americans own 42 percent of the USA. Without unions being in American history, think about what America would look like today. Our soldiers are on food stamps all across America. A lady dies in Florida because of lack of finances to purchase life saving drugs. A lady dies in New Jersey, while sleeping in her vehicle, getting rested up so she could work a second shift on her full time job. Unions are representative of workers. The union is a collective body that speaks and negotiates the wishes of workers to CEOs and politicians. Lobbyist are a collective body that speaks and negotiates the wishes of CEOs to politicians.
Without unions would USA have:
Ended child labor
40 hour work week and paid overtime
Worker's comp benefits for workers injured on the job
Unemployment insurance for workers who lose their jobs
A guaranteed minimum wage for workers
Pensions for workers
Healthcare insurance for workers
Paid sick leave, vacations, and holidays as standard benefits for most workers
the right for public sector workers to collectively bargain
Occupational Safety and Health Act
Family Medical Leave Act
Lobbyist are there for American Legislative Exchange Council, who are a body of corporations, headed up by CEOs whose goal is to develop wealth through massive unemployment of the American worker. This happens because of the GOP. GOP protects CEOs with laws to outsource US jobs, and bring in Foreign workers to do jobs, claiming Americans won't do the jobs, or can't do the jobs. Call this crap!
