Tonight's special guest is Kimberly Mackanic, MSW, LCSW, a councilor at SAFE in Hunterdon in Flemington, New Jersey, since July 2011. Their mission is to empower adult and child survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, while collaborating with the community to prevent violence and create positive social change. They have a 24-hour hotline and provide safe and transitional housing, legal advocacy, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, community education and PALS, and a unique children’s arts therapy program. SAFE in Hunterdon delivers critical support services to the many families that have experienced violence in their lives. In her role, Kimberly provides individual and group counseling services for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse in the community, as well as to survivors of abuse who are incarcerated at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women (where an estimated 85% of the population are survivors of abuse). She is also a facilitator for the agency's 80-hour Volunteer Training program. Kimberly entered the field after completing her Master's in Social Work at Rutgers University, with an area of emphasis in Violence Against Women & Children, and completed her clinical license in 2014. Additionally, she has discussed her work with incarcerated survivors on panel discussions at V-day Flemington ("What I Want My Words to do to You") in 2014 and at Rutgers University Law School ("Crime After Crime: Debbie's Law") in 2012. Kimberly has also been an advocate for survivors of sexual violence via performances in nine productions of The Vagina Monologues throughout NJ since 2006.

OPEN TOPIC or "open mike" night. Call in! Pick any issues, topics or subjects you'd like to discuss. Wearing a Blue Ribbon is the symbol of Child Abuse Awareness! Millions of abuse victims (men and women) hide the story of their experience well into adulthood. A huge number continue to suffer from pain, anger, fear, shame and embarrassment for decades. Most will agree their traumas have resulted in an inability to trust, make good decisions and have healthy relationships. But giving up the secret is often how recovery begins, one survivor talking to another. Join Bill Murray and his co-hosts, panelists and guests, many of them abuse survivors, others supporters and friends, for an informed discussion of the many important issues that surround child abuse. Anonymous calls and chat room participation are encouraged. ~~ Please see our web site at: www.NAASCA.org

Tonight's special guest is Robert Nelson, a survivor of child sexual abuse who, in spite of being sexually abused by a teacher when in school and dealing with the associated trauma, became an internationally recognized speaker and consultant. When in his late 40s, Nelson began to actively confront his childhood abuse. In addition to seeking therapy, Robert became active on the government affairs front, and he's currently a Member of the Board of Directors at Justice4PAKids. The athletic trainer at Nelson’s high school, a marathon runner, befrended him. Robert was 15 and naturally he felt special. After their run one day, the teacher began the pattern of sexual abuse that would last until Robert's senior year. The man made Robert feel as if he were his friend, that he could trust him. He gave Robert access to his mobile home and let him sleep there in the middle of the day where he had an array of gay magazines. He also gave Robert his sports car to drive, and money. When Robert was 17 the trainer took him to an over night professional conference at a hotel and made him sleep in his room. To this day, the trainer continues to work with children at a Pennsylvania high school. In fact, after retiring at the collegiate level as a head athletic trainer the abuser went back to the high school level as a part-time trainer where he could again be amongst children. Robert has become a passionate anti-abuse advocate, lobbying for statute of limitations reform and for child sexual abuse to be added as an exception to the sovereign immunity defense that shields public officials from being sued. Nelson is a graduate of the Ohio State University with a degree in Criminology and Sociology.
