This One Step - Older Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse

Wednesdays we talk about finding support after breaking our silence.

Polly Moore grew up with six siblings in Mobile, Alabama, but was only 8 years old when her father died of lung cancer. Soon two neighborhood boys began to molest her, friends of her older twin brothers. A couple of years later she was assaulted by another neighbor and later by her older brother. She was able to break away from the abuse at the age of twelve, but was by then deep in the darkness of isolation. Polly is now a mother and grandmother, and has lived in Atlanta for the past 15 years. She is contemplating returning to finish her final year at Western Carolina University where she majored in Accounting, and has become a devoted advocate for adult survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.

She began her organization, This One Step, to help older survivors of Child Sexual Abuse deal with the trama of being part of what she has named, "The Unknown Generation"  A generation of survivors who had nowhere to go for support.  In her late teens she began writing as a coping mechanism to deal with the PTSD.  Her three books, "Cider Blocks and Oven Racks", "Billy Wayne's Christmas Train" and "The Unknown Generation" will be available in early 2016.  She has written many southern short stories which have been published in different publications.  She is now hosting her own blogtalk radio show Monday through Friday beginning at 6:00am.

I have lived in Tampa, Fl for over 22 years and I am an avid sports fan. I do my research and get all the facts before I give my opinion. My passion is for all sports but the most important one to me is by far football. I have worked for the Tampa Tribune for 3 years, radio broadcasting, and even covered the Arena Football League. I have covered every sport from volleyball to the UFC and I look forward to bringing my years of sports experience to my new radio show. Like the great Herm Edwards said “ You play to win the game, Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win, and I don't care if you don't have any wins. You go play to win. When you start telling' me it doesn't matter, then retire. Get out! 'Cause it matters."

A Biblical Perspective: Health for the Holidays

    in The Bible

Does God care about your health?  3rd John 1: 2 says, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper and be in health, just as your soul prospers”, so clearly, God wants you to be in good health.  But here is the key—3rd John suggests that you obtain good health much in the same way that you obtain a prosperous soul—by accepting the truth and making good decisions.  Simply put, if God cares about your health, you should, too.

During this season, many people cast off restraint, eating a week’s worth of calories in just one or two days.  Really and truly, such behavior is often an exacerbation of the poor habits that we make throughout the year.   Considering that the number one killer of all Americans is heart disease and that the fourth leading cause is stroke, this is an important topic to which we should all give heed.

Power of Perception wrestling with Matt Courcelle

    in Spirituality

My name is Matt Courcelle (pronounced Core-Cell). I am a BeachBody coach and wrestling enthusiast that produces a bi-weekly podcast which can be found on iTunes, Stitcher, Spreaker and most podcast apps. My website is mattsmadness.com. I am 30 years old, and was born and raised in Albany NY. I currently hold a masters in business administration and have a passion for helping others achieve their fitness goals. I'm a firm believer that your mindset is the most important skill you can have. The key is to find your WHY, find your motivation for wanting to change your life and use that to push you every day. I believe that your motivation can be something very personal that you don't need to share with anyone.

The most common resistance I come across is the excuse that "I just don't have the time". I always tell people that life will always provide you with excuses and reasons not to start that fitness program or business. You'll never wake up one day with nothing on your plate and say "This is the PERFECT time", you need to MAKE time. As a BeachBody coach I've also learned that its not about "selling" people, but rather helping people. Your success will be a direct reflection of how many lives you have been able to help change. When you focus on helping others, and you have a GENUINE interest in helping other people, the money will take care of itself.

the joy of being-practical waysto stay in the moment

    in Spirituality

    The joy of being:

Ask yourself: Is there joy, ease and lightness in what I am doing? If there isn't, then time is covering up the present moment, and life is perceived as a burden or struggle.  If there is no joy, ease, or lightness in what you are doing, it does not necessarily mean that you need to change what you are doing. It may be sufficient to change the how. "How" is always more important than "what".

See if you can give much more attention to the doing than to the result that you want to achieve throught it. Give your fullest attention to whatever the moment presents. This only implies you completely accept what is, because you cannot give your fullest attention to something and at the same time resist it.

Do not be concerned with the fruit of you action:  just simply give attention to the action itself. The fruit will come of its own accord. This is a very powerful spiritual prctice...
