As we learn at TheCenterPS.org, "The story of The Center (also known as The LGBT Community Center of The Desert) is one of success. This vibrant organization is undergoing a dramatic expansion to better serve our seniors, to embrace the diversity of our Valley, to build camaraderie, to provide wellness and social services – and to enrich the lives of the LGBT community. The magnitude of commitment to The Center’s mission in this community is striking. Through the contributions of our members, volunteers, donors, business partners, board and staff, we are addressing urgent needs of hunger, depression, isolation and building a community center that brings people together for health, for wellness, for socializing, for FUN and for a broad array of shared interests."
On May 21st, 2015, at the beautiful home of Palm Springs City Council Candidate Geoff Kors and his husband, Palm Springs Unified School Board Member James Williamson, The Center's Executive Director Mike Thomspon addressed existing and future members of The Center's Ocotillo Club (major donors) about how far the organization has come, and where it's headed. They say, "Be a part of this success story as it unfolds. Join us...You are welcome here."

Nearly 70% of all African American infants are born to unwed mothers. Crime is rampant; it's projected that 28% of all African American males will be incarcerated in their lifetime. And then there's high unemployment, drug use, poverty, and deficiencies in education.
An Intervention- Kwathu Children’s Home: Gertrude, born to a young single girl, barely old enough to take care of herself, became a ‘mom’ to her 2 year old, half-brother, at a tiny age of 6 years. Gertrude and Linto were the ‘results’ of a young woman trying to survive through the only way she knew how, prostitution. Naturally, the two children were unplanned, and the young woman was certainly in no position to care for them. Having to fight for survival, Gertrude would wrap her little brother on her back and walk into the township and steal food. Someone noticed that these two children were in desperate need for care, and took action. 6 years have passed, and Gertrude and Linto have blossomed into two incredible children. They found their home, their foundation and their future.
Beats and Books: A similar story yet in another part of Africa is that of a young girl with little knowledge of her Mom's whereabouts. The death of her father had so little consequence as he was only a man whose last name she bears. Her name is Yonela which means "enough." She has no one to look to except the strangers in her life who have consistently shown her love and care and have become her family. Two years ago, through our intervention, Yonela was moved into a private school where she has learned quickly how to read and write. Every week, she spends atleast 9 hours learning musical skills and improving her literacy with people who believe in changing her circumstances in our after-school program. Yonela has begun to dream.

Have you ever kept from sharing your spiritual journey or gifts from fear that you may be judged? Who we are and what we are here to do is much larger and more important than our temptation to play it safe from fear of being judged or rejected by society. Too many play it safe, being caught up in fear and insecurity, and are unwilling to stand in their truth. We are often too busy trying to please others or worrying about what others think of us.It isn’t serving anyone for us to do so.We each need to remove our protective shell and reach deep within to connect with our spirit to discover who we are and realize our spiritual purpose.

Six years later, this information was confirmed with much more detail and her book, "Journey with an Angel" was born. Lisa continues to expand and share her awareness and understanding of angels and how to reconnect to these powerful and loving beings.

Show Topic: The everyday goals of the TC are compassion, achievement, discipline, and accountability / responsibility achieved through community life based on a social learning model, and created in formal and informal settings. The beliefs that are essential to the TC are that a person can change, and that a group can foster this change. The individual must at some point take responsibility, but going through the motions is ok as a stopgap measure until the beliefs are integrated. We'll discuss the five core concepts of the TC and the many tools used to facilitate them.
