The Interpersonal Connection ~ There Is Hope ~ Part (3)

    in Self Help

Encouragement & Inspiration! Let's Talk About It, Then Pray About It. There is Hope (Part 3) Hope according to the Baker Evangelical Dictionary means To trust in, wait for, look for, or desire something or someone; or to expect something beneficial in the future. Hope is indispensable for survival and this is especially true when people are confronted by misfortunes, uncertainties, and bitter disparities in life. Hope is faith holding out its hands in the dark.

Joseph Addison wrote that the blessed hope..."not only bears up the mind under sufferings but makes her rejoice in them." Isaac Watts wrote that Hope thinks nothing difficult; despair tells us that difficulty is insurmountable. G K Chesterton said Hope means expectancy when things are otherwise hopeless. Jeremy Collier said that our blessed hope is a vigorous principle; it sets the head and heart to work and animates a man to do his utmost. The Puritan Thomas Manton wrote What an excellent ground of hope and confidence we have when we reflect upon these three things in prayer the Father's love, the Son's merit and the Spirit's power! Gabriel Marcel said Hope is for the soul what breathing is for the living organism.

Over 30 years and 26 dealerships ago, I started the Bob Rohrman Auto Group based on the single proposition that the customer is the most important person at the dealership. I realized long before research companies created customer satisfaction surveys that the only way to keep a business thriving was to treat your customers well.

When it comes to total customer satisfaction, the two main building blocks are quality products and quality people. This means before, during, and after purchasing your quality new or used car, truck or van, you will receive the highest quality customer service from our associates.

Objections In the Discussion of Faith and Reason (Part 2)

    in Religion

    The Reasons to Believe #37

Our Reasons to Believe Scripture passage for today is 2 Corinthians 10:5: "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."

Our Reasons to Believe quote for today is from J.P. Moreland: "God maintains a delicate balance between keeping his existence sufficiently evident so people will know he's there and yet hiding his presence enough so that people who want to choose to ignore him can do it. This way, their choice of destiny is really free."

Our Reason to Believe powerpoint today is titled "Objections In the Discussion of Faith and Reason" (Part 2) from "The Handbook of Christian Apologetics" by Peter Kreeft and Ronald K. Tacelli:

Today, we will continue with our objections and replies in the discussion of faith and reason:

Objection 4: What about all those intellectually brilliant unbelievers, the counter-examples to Justin Martyr? If Christianity is so reasonable, why did Celsus, Plotinus, Hobbes, Machiavelli, Voltaire, Rousseau, Goethe, Melville, Jefferson, Shaw, Russell, Franklin, Sartre, Camus, Nietzsche, Marx, Freud, and Skinner all reject it?

Reply A: Christianity is reasonable but it is not obvious. It is more like E=MC squared than like 2 + 2 = 4.

Reply B: If Christianity is so irrational, why have so many brilliant minds accepted it? The assortment of unbelievers mentioned above is easily overcome by Paul, John, Augustine, Aquinas, Anselm, Bonaventura, Scotus, Luther, Calvin, Descartes, Pascal, Leibniz, Berkeley, Galileo, Copernicus, Kepler, Newton, Newman, Lincoln, Pasteur, Kierkegaard, Shakespeare, Dante, Chesterton, Lewis, Solzhenitsyn, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Tolkien, da Vinci, Michelangelo, T.S. Eliot, Dickens, Milton, Spenser and Bach, not to mention a certain Jesus of Nazareth.
