Purposed 4 Godliness w/Min. Daffany Smith - Special Guest Cheryl King-Cotton

    in Christianity

Join me and my guest - Cheryl King-Cotton Founder of House of Deliverance for Battered Women
The mission: to break the cycle of Domestic Violence by providing resources and life changing programs to those women and their children who are victimize by domestic violence.

Cheryl’s Powerful Story - “When did I start Living?” The answer to that question is, I was always living but it was in a domestic violence situation for 17 years. Everyone thought my marriage was perfect.

It was not until I told myself that I had enough of this and there had to be a better life for me and my children. When I made that decision, that first step was probably the hardest decision I ever had to make.

I opened up to my pastors, family members and other organizations that supported me. One day in 1997, after carefully planning my getaway, I moved my kids and myself to another state to start my new life.

I am truly a living testimony of someone taking back their life. And out of appreciation from what was given to me, I plan to assist other women that are currently in the same situation I was in. Once you realize that you are not alone, your journey will be a little easier to travel.

    Special Guest: Morgana Ray

Morgana emerged from an ancestral line of visionaries, educators, counselors and healers. Her earliest American ancestors arrived on the coast of New England in the 17th century at the beginning of the New England settlements. Others followed within the next 100 years. Coming as she does from this kind of traditional American history, she has always felt drawn to the positive aspects of American culture, traditions, communities and can-do philosophies. Although they discussed various interpretations of reality and the like and did not consider themselves as "psychic" per se, but their instincts for understanding the needs of their communities were strong. Like her forbears, she believes that all beings are entitled to freedom, love, happiness, protections, abundance and a strong sense of purpose.

Morgana became seriously enthused about the various forms of divination following a reading she was given by a family friend at the age of 15.  Since then she has pursued higher awareness and applied energy techniques related to Eastern / Western religions, the so called "New Age" philosophers, and Astrology. She has an M.A. in psychology and is a Reiki Master.

    Wanda's Picks Radio Show

    in Art

This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay!

The term "school to prison pipeline, was first used in the USA, however it is becoming increasingly used and recgonised in the UK. Many parents and carers are all to aware of what can only be described as the systematic way in which children are being "pushed" out of the education system. When speaking with these children and young people they often say, that they are made to feel less than their peers, they feel picked on and that they are treated differently then other students. There have even been reports on direct & verbal racial abuse, met out by teachers towards black children. It has been well documented that Black children do far better academically in school when they are between the ages of five to eleven years. There is growing concern amongst academics and parents at the large rate in which black children are forced out of school at very important stages of their academic lives. It has also been well documented in the mainstream press that teachers have admitted to "marking down the work of black students", they have admitted to having low expectations of black students, so tend to ignore them in class. When a child reacts to what they often see as being ignored or treated differently they are severly reprimanded, for at times, minor offences which their peers are simply given a warning or in house reprimand for.
