Double binds are a linguistic trap. Whether that trap is consciously or unconsciously set, it puts the individual into “NO-WIN” situations in which there are few ways to escape. The implications of this language pattern are far reaching and I’m hoping that Mr. FitzMaurice will be able to shed some light on a few ways to either avoid this trap or “spring it” without losing a foot.
Kevin FitzMaurice has a variety of formal and advanced training in counseling, which includes Addictions Counseling, Family Therapy, advanced Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), and over 1300 hours of diverse training (CEUs).
