The Charlotte Hornets Newfound Road-Savvy Will Be Put to the Test

    in Basketball

The Charlotte Hornets have used the month of March to refocus their efforts away from Time Warner Cable Arena. If you ask players and coaches they will tell you, winning on the road isn't an exact science...it's closer to an art form. It take a special focus and determination to close another team out in front of a hostile crowd and an unfamiliar building. Unless they can move decidedly past two of the three teams competing with them for the 3rd through 6th seed, they will need to find a way to beat good teams on the road. They have two road tests on the horizon against the top two seeds in the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors.

Michael Jordan trying to be the GOAT again with the Charlotte Hornets

    in Basketball

After a tumultuous start to his career as a basketball executive, it seems like Michael Jordan has his sights on being the GOAT once again. This time it will stand for "Greatest Owner of All Time." He's got a long way to go to win over Charlotte fans, still somewhat soured on NBA basketball, much less national recognition for franchise building. But a recent article by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports signals the tide might be shifting towards a favorable outlook for MJ as an owner and the Charlotte Hornets as a viable NBA franchise. We'll take a closer look and give our thoughts with guest Dustin Phifer.

How do the Charlotte Hornets matchup with possible playoff foes?

    in Basketball

The Charlotte Hornets magic number continues to drop and a playoff berth is just within reach. We think it's safe to start scouting potential playoff matchups and the Hornets have many possibilities. The Eastern Conference has a huge gut of four teams, the Hornets, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics, vying for seeds 3-6. We bring on NBA expert and editor for SportingNews.com, Adi Joseph, to help us decide who we'd like to see the Hornets play and who we're hoping they avoid.

Charlotte Hornets NBA Playoffs Round 1: Hornets Hustle Beats Miami Muscle

    in Basketball

Games 3 and 4 were dramatically different in score and style and that played right into the hands of the Charlotte Hornets. They used aggressive rim attacks and opportunistic defense to counter the adjustments the Miami Heat made to take away the three point line and dominate the paint.

Now the series shifts back to Miami where the biggest question will be how Miami reacts to having their defense shredded by Charlotte's Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lin. Will they back off their pressure defense and will the three ball return to the Hornets arsenal of offensive weapons? Listen for our analysis of Game 4 and our preview of a pivotal Game 5.

Charlotte Hornets NBA Playoffs Round 1 Primer with ESPN.com's Michael Wallace

    in Basketball

Familiarity can breed contempt and angst but it can also breed great basketball. The Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat have played each other four times this season. Three out of the four were extremely close contests with big rallies by each team. One was a Hornets blowout victory that Miami players probably still let simmer in the backs of their minds. Which team will overcome contempt and breed success? Michael Wallace, writer for ESPN.com, joins us at 6:20 p.m. to help us get a little more familiar with what the Heat will bring Sunday when the Hornets tip off in Miami.
