SEC. OF STATE John "Vietnam" Kerry has been busy this week, trying to convince members of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services committees as well as House Foreign Affairs members why Obama's plan to "halt" Iran's nuclear weapons is a "good deal."
And both leaders in the House and Senate are getting hammered by conservatives for their flaccid responses to issues that matter. As reported by David Limbaugh "While President Obama accelerates his increasingly radical agenda, the GOP, despite its congressional majority, can barely muster an objection, let alone block his momentum."
Tonight - the backstories to those and more with Capitol Hill insider Elizabeth Letchworth Chryst, the first woman to have been elected US Secretary to the Senate.
Wow, is it hot outside in the Big Apple, folks! As the temperature moves past 100 degrees, we promise to cool you down with facts, fun and not so much fire. Join Dburt and Capt. Kirk for the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast, airing this Wednesday at 7:30pm EST. The topics slated for discussion are: our thoughts regarding an alleged "embargo" for prospective reviewers of the forthcoming Josh Trank, Fantastic 4 reboot to be lifted a day before the film is to be released; Comic Book Resources provides further verification that the New Line Cinema, Shaft reboot is still a "go" (no collabo considered with David Walker-author of the great comic series?); according to the Daily Beast, a "contest" of sorts involving LA gangs purports to put out a challenge to accomplish 100 kills (gang members and innocents included)....yea Black Lives Matter shouldn't include this (wow); continuing from the Grindhouse episode, football legend, Charles Haley instructs rookie players by telling them to "act white,"; NASA not only affirms that there is another planet that could potentially sustain human life but also that we may not truly be alone in the universe; noted linguist, writer and Columbia U professor, John McWhorter posits that the current antiracism philosophy appears to be perceived as a type of "religion" with fellow scribe, Ta-Nehisi Coates anointed as its priest. And lastly, Dburt just figured out that the concept of "cool" is unequivocally missing in the 21st century. Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.

The challenge facing all of us is to rise above the things that have kept us divided in the past, by focusing us on the agenda of creating a better future for our people to see how all of us, with all of our varied differences, can come together and direct our energy, not at each other, but at the condition of the reality of the suffering of our people, that we might use all of our skills, gifts and talents to create a better world for ourselves, our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is time for us to stop thinking and acting solely on behalf of our churches, mosques, temples, synagogues and organizations. It is time for us as leaders to come together and begin to think, plan, and act on behalf of the whole of our people. We must put an end to the Mischief and the Mischief Maker!
On Win's Women of Wisdom today, Best-Selling Author, Win Kelly Charles welcomes Diane Ashley. She holds a Master’s degree in professional counseling from Liberty University. She also has first-hand experience with emotional trauma. Although a survivor of child abuse, her greatest challenge with grief and loss came when her oldest son drowned. Diane has spent much of her life helping those who hurt. She has assisted low income youth and adults with free counseling services, and gives emotional support to those who have suffered trauma. The purpose of Diane’s book, How to Help Someone Who is Grieving, is to help others who grieve, enlighten people to what grief really is, and teach helpers what some of the positives and some of the not so positives are, when interacting with someone who hurts. Shortly after its release, the book was adopted by the Sparks Nevada Sheriff’s Department as a training tool to help officers hurting after the loss of deputy’s within their department, and to also train in how to help someone dealing with grief. Currently, Diane lives with her husband Ron, and their two German Shepherds whom her husband fondly refers to as “their kids”. To learn more about Diane email her at firstname.lastname@example.org. Get in the game this Tuesday evening at 7 pm, with the "Frat Boys" Nick, Sean & Caleb; they're running the bases in a truly unique edition of Frat House Sports' Clean-Up Hitters #20.
Tick, tock, tick, tock...the countdown to the MLB Trade Deadline is fast approaching and the results have been a flurry of activity in both the rumor and franchise markets. The guys will be discussing the fact and fiction surrounding Cole Hamels, Yasiel Puig, Johnny Cueto...Chase Utley? Seriously? It's a "buyers' market" and maybe a "fire sale" all over the baseball landscape with just 3 days left!
On Sunday the MLB Hall of Fame recognized 4 new inductees and the guys are offering up their impressions of one of the most electric (and eclectic) "class" in the Hall's history. Plus, man-oh-man...Commissioner Rob Manfred recently commented on "hot-button" issues including: pushing back the trade deadline, how the league anticipates more Cuban inclusion (expansion?) and his "pending" meeting with Pete Rose.
Of course, a look at the (meaningless?) "power rankings" and the (meaningful !) scores/standings from Caleb's Sports Machine is on-deck; a surprise or 2, and the popular weekly Series Streak Challenge has to be updated...who is that in the Lead there? Yep. The boys are in scoring position, so call in your thoughts LIVE to 347-826-9964 beginning at 7 pm (edt) !
