    in Politics Progressive

The top House Republican campaign official broke with other GOP leaders Wednesday in criticizing President Barack Obama over his chained CPI proposal.
During an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) said Obama was “trying to balance this budget on the backs of seniors” with the plan, which would change the way Social Security cost-of-living adjustments are calculated.
Daniel Scarpinato, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said Walden is opposed to “chained CPI,” even if that’s out of step with other GOP leaders.
“He believes it’s wrong to cut benefits for seniors to pay for more wasteful spending,” Scarpinato said.

    Hosted By Debbie Dahmer

Guest will be: Denise Cohn- CEO Dogs Deserve Better

Denise have been rescuing dogs for over 30 years. Denise was a foster Mom for a GA rescue for many years and had as many as 42 foster dogs at one time. Typical was 20. Denise has five rescue dogs of her own. Currently Denise is the CEO of Dogs Deserve Better in Smithfield, VA. DDB takes in the abused, neglected, chained and penned dogs from all over the country. These dogs have seen the worse of humans. They have suffered from no shelter, sometimes no food, riddled with tick borne disease and most have heartworm as well. They have no socializtion with humans and are desperate for affection. To watch them blossom into the dogs they have always wanted to be is heart warming and simply amazing. The transformations are spectacular. Unlike most rescues, The VA shelter is actually a home. They don' t have kennels. The dogs live in the house, with the staff, and learn how to be a 'normal' dog. After they receive the medical treatment they need and are socialized, they are adopted to new homes and a family of their own.

Dogs Deserve Better reside in the former Michael Vick dog fighting compound. His property has been transformed into a rescue shelter. The dogs get their baths in the luxurious jacuzzis.

Dogs Deserve Better is a non-profit which survives solely on donations. All donations are tax deductible.

Dogs Deserve Better, First Place Winner of the Chase Pet Protector Award, is a voice for chained and penned dogs, whose sadness speaks only through the eyes.

Plan-B; Social Security and Chained CPI; Chris Christie

    in News

Chapter 1: White House Calls for Hold on Decision Regarding Plan-B Morning After Pill   The FDA announced lowered  the age which young women can obtain Plan-B, the so-called “morning-after pill” without a prescription from 17 years-of-age to 15. A federal district judge thought there shouldn’t be any age restriction. The Administration reacted by asking the court for a stay while they appeal.  We talk to Linda Feldmann reporter for the Christian Science Monitor who has been following the story.   Chapter 2: Social Security and Chained CPI   Retirement assistance be it Social Security and Medicare remains a constant battle when Congress debates the budget. Various budget proposals have varied on how they would address its solvency. President Obama included the adoption of chained-CPI to calculate future social security needs and payouts to retirees. The Senate did not. The Republican budget didn’t, but included other cuts. We talk to Mark Romm, Director of Masters Program in American Government at Georgetown University and Max Richtman, President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security.   Chapter 3:  New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Using State Race for 2016 Ambitions   Chris Christie is again bucking his own party, calling for expanded background checks to curb gun violence. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Gubernatorial election is 6 months away, though many are calling it a done deal. Christie is a popular national figure, even having been named one of Time’s 100 most influential people. His Opponent is Barbara Buono, a state senator who served as the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and as majority leader. We get an update from Paul Mulshine, columnist at the New Jersey Star Ledger.

The Revelation of Saint John the Theologian

    in Religion

And then the worker of iniquity with his servants shall behold it, and gnash his teeth exceedingly, and all the unclean spirits shall be turned to flight. And then, seized by invisible power, having no means of flight, they shall gnash their teeth against him, saying to him: Where is your power? How have you led us astray? And we have fled away, and have fallen away from the glory which we had beside Him who is coming to judge us, and the whole human race. Woe to us! Because He banishes us into outer darkness.

Then will I send an angel out of heaven, and he shall cry with a loud voice, saying, Hear, O earth, and be strong, says the Lord; for I am coming down to you. And the voice of the angel shall be heard from the one end of the world even to the other, and even to the remotest part of the abyss. And then shall be shaken all the power of the angels and of the many-eyed ones, and there shall be a great noise in the heavens, and the nine regions of the heaven shall be shaken, and there shall be fear and astonishment upon all the angels. And then the heavens shall be rent from the rising of the sun even to the setting, and an innumerable multitude of angels shall come down to the earth; and then the treasures of the heavens shall be opened, and they shall bring down every precious thing, and the perfume of incense, and they shall bring down to the earth Jerusalem robed like a bride.  And then will I come forth with power and great glory, and every eye in the clouds shall see me; and then every knee shall bend, of things in heaven, and things on earth, and things under the earth.  And then the heaven shall remain empty; and I will come down upon the earth, and all that is in the air shall be brought down upon the earth, and all the human race and every evil spirit along with Antichrist, and they shall all be set before me naked, and chained by the neck.

Christians in Despair and Depression, Part 5 (Pilgrim's Progress... #45)

    in Christianity

    TEXT: Romans 8:37-39

We began this mini-series on how Christians can handle despair and depression by highlighting the number of people -- Christian and non-Christian -- who have sadly taken their lives after a struggle with depression or some kind of mental illness. We would be remiss if we did not tackle the subject of suicide itself as a part of this series. It is a topic that most Christians generally avoid because it is such a sensitive issue -- especially for the family and friends of those who have taken their own lives. Perhaps even sadder are the tragic stories of those who kill others before killing themselves.

As you will recall, when Christian and Hopeful were chained in the dungeon of Giant Despair, Christian suggested that he and his companion take the Giant's advice and end their own lives because, in his words, death would be better than the existence they had at the time. Perhaps, at times, you have felt the same -- that you would rather die than go through whatever it is you are facing. Several characters in the Bible did.

While such feelings are well within the bounds of human experience, we as new men and women in Christ have a greater cause for not giving in to the despair that leads to suicide. We know that whatever we are facing -- be it a spiritual threat, a physical threat, or even death itself -- cannot separate us from the love of God. Paul writes, "We are more than conquerors through him that loved us." We can overcome anything in life through faith in God and in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Summer 2015: Fried Anger On A Stick

    in Comedy

Summer is a great time of year but it certainly comes with its drawbacks and annoyances. Kids running amok, TV reruns, political buffoonery, rickety rides at county and state fairs, and the heat induced human stench and anger walking freely about, so...

Join Jay, Matt, and the IWS Radio gang as they discuss this hot, humid, dead pool of mosquitos, sunburns, and chained wallet wearing rednecks chowing down on fried cheese on a stick, known as the dog days of summer.

Along with the comedic analysis of this soul wrenching time of year by Jay and Matt, there will be plenty of awful summertime music, mocking of the 2016 Presidential candidates, and perhaps fun times with the likes of Jamie Mapleleaf, Whisperin' Sam, Back-Handed Compliment Man, Robert the Taylor, Rev. Moneymaker, and Mr. Vague.

All of that plus your phone calls at 661.244.9852, as IWS Radio presents...Summer 2015: Fried Anger On A Stick

About Chained to Mineola: Carly Eubanks returns to her hometown for her aunt's funeral. Before flying back to California she drives down the street in Mineola where she spent her childhood. The house was originally owned by Betty and Bill Edwards, her grandparents, who bought the house after WWII. Carly is dismayed when she discovers a road crew who is just about to cut down the oak trees on Oak Street, including the one she played in as a child in front of her old home. She can't let this happen. She mades an instant decision to save the tree, climbing inside the limbs and then chaining herself to the branches. With the help of her cousin and an old high school boyfriend she sets out to save the tree and the environment and swears not to come down until the City changes its plans to widen the street and to demolish the trees. It's not going to be easy, in fact, the unforeseen future presents more than one challenge to this determined woman. It's Carly's story, but also her cousin and her niece's story. Her niece, Alison becomes involved with a young man from Scotland who has an uncle also very concerned about the environment, in fact he makes a career from working in Perthshire's annual Enchanted Forest. Destiny is about to step in and change all of their lives, because of a girl who loves a tree.

About A. Louise Robertson: A. Louise Robertson was born in New York City in 1948. She's been a writer since first opening the cover of Little Women as an eight-year-old and falling in love with the written word.
