"The Slave Across the Street" - Sex Trafficking

    in Parents

Today our guest is Theresa Flores, who was offered a ride home by a fellow classmate when she was 15 years old living in an upper middle class suburb. The boy's raping her escalated to her becoming sex trafficked. Within a few weeks she was entrenched in the industry still living at home. She tried her best to continue living a "normal" life. Coming from a devout catholic family, and religious herself she was unable to share her experience with her family or anyone else.

    Theresa Flores LSW, MS
Human Trafficking Survivor, Best Selling Author, Victim’s Advocate, Founder of S.O.A.P. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution)

Ms. Flores has been a licensed Social Worker for over twenty years. She received a Master’s in Counseling Education from University of Dayton and a Bachelor’s of Social Work from Ball State University. Ms. Flores was appointed to the Ohio Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Commission in 2009 and has testified before the Ohio House and Senate in supports of Human Trafficking Legislation. Her efforts were a major part of the success of these bills being passed into laws. In January 2012 at the State of the State Address, Ms. Flores received The Courage Award from Ohio Governor Kasich for her work in human trafficking. She also has received the 2013 Christian Service Award, the highest award given by the University of Dayton’s Alumni Association for her work with SOAP.

Andre Berto Lands The Perfect Uppercut Ultimately Stopping Victor Ortiz

    in Sports

On today’s show, the panel discusses all of the fights from this past weekend, led by the back-and-forth action in Carson, California (StubHub Center) where Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz traded punches and knockdowns in their four round classic.

Berto was able to pull off the win, and in grand fashion, but what does this mean for the state of the young and talented welterweight division? Is Berto a major player? Is Ortiz’s career as a welterweight prizefighter over? We will answer all of these questions as we speak of the Ortiz-Berto undercard which showcased a number of terrific fights.

We will also discuss the ShowTime card with Badou Jack taking on Lucian Bute and James DeGale squaring off against Rogelio Medina. After breaking down the card’s action, we will present some scenarios for the remainder of the tournament.

Friday night’s action went as planned as the Dirrell brothers both won, but the panel will breakdown the meaning of the card and what is likely to come of it.

Overseas action led by Hughie Fury and Fred Kassi.

With the time remaining, we will bring you some news and notes from the world of boxing and perhaps give a small taste of what is to come with next week’s Canelo-Khan PPV.

And, of course, we will be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. From Alumni to first-time callers, we encourage everyone to call 646-478-3068 to voice your opinion. And remember you can express your opinion in writing by becoming part of the team and writing for the site- contact Mario Mungia or Nestor Gibbs at Theboxingvoice@yahoo.com. Potential for substantial growth within the field of boxing journalism.

Bob Fields - Bob is a member of the Board of Directors for the NFL Alumni Association and was an undrafted free agent signed by the Rams. What was the draft process like for him? We'll also talk about what the NFL Alumni Association is doing to help the many former players who are now dealing with long term health issues later in life.

JJ Birden - JJ was an 8th round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns who later cut him. What were his expecations heading into the draft? JJ was also a track star in college at Oregon, making it to the US Olympic trials. We'll get his thoughts on the Olympics later this summer and his thoughts on fellow Oregon Duck Devon Allen who's following in his footsteps.

Kent Hill - Kent was a 1st round draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 1979. We'll talk about what draft day was like for him. What was it like going through that day and sitting there waiting for your name to be called? We'll also hear his thougths on the Rams selecting Jared Goff with the #1 selection.

Jim Everett - Now that the Rams are back in LA and drafting #1, we'll hear what Jim thinks about the Rams selection of QB Jared Goff as the 1st overall pick.
