Settlement Reached for the Central Park 5. Is $40 Million enough???

    in Entertainment

The Central Park 5 gets their settlememt $40 million!

Yes, yall remember the 5 young boys who went to jail for the 1989 beating and rape of the central park jogger.  Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise and Yusef Salaam have agreed to a $40 Million settlement from the New York City after being wrongfully convicted 24 years ago in the sensational Central Park jogger case that whipped New York into a racial frenzy — have reached a $40 million settlement with the city, a source familiar with the terms said Thursday.

Now middle-aged, the men were teens when they were arrested in 1989 amid a wave of corrosive and polarizing outrage over the savage rape of a 28-year-old woman. Convicted in 1990, Antron, Kevin, Raymond and Yusef were in prison just shy of seven years, while Kharey served nearly 13.  The men, known as the Central Park Five, had been locked in a bitter battle with the city since filing civil rights lawsuits following their exoneration in 2002. Their convictions were vacated after career criminal Matias Reyes confessed to the brutal crime and DNA evidence backed up his claim. Is $40 Million enough??? Yusef Salaam of the Central Park Five

    in Current Events

Yusef Salaam is one of the exonerated men of the Central Park Five. On April 19th 1989, at just 15 yrs of age, he along with 4 other young boys were being falsely arrested for the horrific crime of rape. The victim had no memory of the incident; and these boys, from 14 - 16 yrs old, had no prior arrest records. They later became known as the ‘Central Park 5’, victims themselves in New York City’s historical “Central Park Jogger Case.”
Yusef relives the effect that this case had on his life as the police sporadically rounded him up. All five were tried and convicted.  In May 2002, Matias Reyes, a convicted rapist and murdered, admitted he was the sole attacker of the jogger.  On December 19th 2002, the convictions of The Central Park 5 were overturned. The Central Park 5...What Really Happened.

    in News

The Central Park 5...What Really Happened.

My name is Andrew Novick. I made the 5 tapes of the Central Park 5. I was there the whole time...The ADA forgot to mention my name when she introduced everyone in the room and I was sitting right next to her. However, thankfully the Defenense attorneys were so stupid they did not catch that at the trail. If they did, the tapes would have been thrown out as evidence and no case would have been made...hear more inside information about The Central Park 5 that only an insider would know.

The Central Park 5: What Really Happened?

I am the man that made the 5 Central Park Tapes in 1989.
I am not a cop, a laywer or related to the defendants.
I am the video technician who set up the camera and made all the recordings of the 5 statements. I was in the room the whole time. Not one laywer, cop, media or film person had the wisdom to ask me any questions of what I saw that long night, but I saw it all. Call in and ask me any questions that have never been answered before.

Many exonerees are released from their cells without fanfare, apologies or anywhere to go. In some states, more services are available to parolees than to exonerees. During long years in prison, families and friends have disappeared. Any money in the bank before conviction has probably been spent on legal fees. Most exonerees struggle immediately to find housing and work and many bear the weight of a conviction on their record for years before they are officially cleared.

Wrongly Convicted Central Park Five Survivor & New NYC Mayor Settling lawsuit

    in Education

Join The Gist of Freedom and host ILYASAH SHABAZZ, as she speaks with Yusef Salaam, One of the 5 Central Park convicted survivors. Mr. Salaam says that New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio’s call for a settlement to the suit by the wrongfully convicted five men allows the matter to come to an end.  Read More

In a jailhouse confession following his conversion to Christianity,  Matias Reyes claimed that he raped the Central Park Jogger, exonerating the five Harlem teens who were wrongfully convicted in the infamous racially charged 1989 case.

Reyes, now 31, said he was moved to admit his guilt after witnessing the hard time Wise was having in prison- and to rue the miscarriage of justice that may have been as horrible as the crime that caused it.

"What I didn't feel back in 1989, I felt it then," he told Primetime. "I said, 'It's time. I can't believe I let this man in here 13 years of his life, for something that he didn't do.'"

Reyes knew that Wise was charged in the Central Park rape, but he said nothing. "You know what it is to be in front of a guy, to sit and watch TV for so many days in the room right there? And you knowing that you did what the guy's accused of and not finding the strength or the desire to tell this man that 'Hey, it's me. You didn't do this. Let me help you out'?

On December 19, 2002, on the recommendation of the Manhattan District Attorney, the convictions of the five teens, now men, were overturned. Yusef Salaam had served five and a half years for a crime he did not commit.
