Spare Parts: With the help of their high school's newest teacher (George Lopez), four Hispanic students form a robotics club. Although they have no experience, the youths set their sights on a national robotics contest. With $800 and parts scavenged from old cars, they build a robot and compete against reigning champion MIT. Along the way, the students learn not only how to build a robot but something far more important: how to forge bonds that will last a lifetime. www.google.com

Slyce Book Club
Today, we live in a society that is more conscious about gender equality than ever before. As a result, more women are shattering the once-impenetrable glass ceiling and entering traditionally male-dominated fields such as aerospace, engineering, and the armed forces. Historically, there is no other career path that is older, and more male-dominated than the clergy.
California-based corporate female pastor and now author of the new book, Morning Briefings: Daily Wisdom and Inspiration from Scripture, Christine DiGiacomo knows something about breaking through the "stained glass" ceiling and making her mark in the original “‘old boys’ club."
Known for her clever sense of humor, wittiness, fun-loving personality, and attractive looks, DiGiacomo has been able to rise to the top of her field as an outspoken female pastor
We will be reviewing January's Book of the Month which is Think And Grow Rich by Napolena Hill.
Think and Grow Rich is Napoleon Hill's masterpiece; more than just another book on making money, it is a book of distilled wisdom that guides the reader towards both acquiring wealth, and living a more fulfilled life.
Researched over twenty-five years, Napoleon Hill interviewed dozens of millionaires, and some of the richest men of all time including Andrew Carnegie and Henry Ford. This book puts together the common factors found in some of the most important Americans of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and presents the information in a simple and straight forward manner that can be understood by all.
To anyone who hasn’t lost their parents, here’s some news – you never get over it'
This is an excert from an artical written for the Guardian.com Entitled They're my parents. I miss them by: Eleni Kyriacou:Friday 9 December 2011 19.05 EST
On a bitterly cold April morning in 1998, my father died of a heart attack. The shock of his death was like a punch to the stomach. It was the first bereavement I'd experienced up close. For weeks, a cloak of confusion, rage and disbelief descended. By contrast, my mother's death, five years later, held no shock. It arrived clearly signposted, with a predictability that was agonising: diagnosis, scan, operation, false hope, radiotherapy, hospice, morphine, death.
At 39 I'd become an adult orphan, a member of the club that nobody wants to join but most will. One parent dying was devastating; but when my mother died it changed me for ever. I felt anchorless, as if I was no longer anyone's child. I may have looked the same but something inside me shifted.
A friend likens being an adult orphan to being the only tree left standing in a forest. I know what she means. For me it's as if my roots have been hacked away: my parents are the reason I'm here, what held me up. They had been the one stable point during my whole life, the constant. Yes, I'm an adult and can stand alone. But there are times I still need my mother and father, times I feel very alone.

Kim Robinson's father, a tailor, inspired me. The first thing Kim ever made, a halter top, was the kind with the choker ring around the neck. She attached some yellow yarn as hair, buttons for eyes, and for lips, a red licorice. Sadly, the California sun melted the licorice all over the place, but every little girl in the neighborhood was exchanging their toys for one.
In addition to continuing her sewing throughout high school, Kim was in the modeling club, where she, along with her friends showcased her designs. Remember, this was the late 70’s when Superfly and Cleopatra Jones were The Thang. Kim progress to making long coats and lace up pants out of recycled Levi’s.
Currently writing a story entitled Street Life to Housewife, Kim assures you that the title speaks for itself. The author of four other books near completion, one is best described as Murder she wrote for the hood.’ Kim's goal is to comlete an eight-book series.
She is close to completing God Ain’t Spelled Government. where the alumni of Dominguez High School, Class of '77 has leaked a government conspiracy at her twenty-year class reunion. The Government does not know to whom the conspiracy was leaked, Consequently, they Government set out to kill everyone who attended the reunion.
Three books Kim rely upon. One is Green Pharmacy while the other is Live Right for Your Type. Her most important is The Holy Bible.
