Know Show-w/Rev. Mc -“Creating A Positive OUTCOME from, The Ferguson Experience"

    in Spirituality

Know Show-Wed/11/26/14-w/Rev. Mc -“Creating A Positive OUTCOME from, The Ferguson Experience, In MY Neighborhood!”  7-8pm, CST.

Dear Friends & Family of The Know Show,

Please join me, Know Show host, Rev. Robert J.V. McMillan, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, from 7-8pm, C.S.T., as we discuss, “A Positive Outcome from The Ferguson Experience, In MY Neighborhood!”  Someone once said that when life throws lemons at you, that is the time to make lemonade!  We know that to be true, but it is sometimes challenging to find the right people willing to share their sugar and water to complete the lemonade, but in doing so we reach deep within our spiritual selves to find the courage to work together, sometimes in spite of our differences; and in doing so we become better collectively than individually, and so much better than ever before; and the world is better because of our individual and joint sacrifices.

Please join our panel of judges, lawyers, ministers, teachers, mothers and fathers, politicians, educators and academicians, as we discuss achieving a positive outcome from the Ferguson experience in our local communities.  We will discuss our strengths not our weaknesses and where we go from here, what challenges lie ahead of us but most of all how excited we are to make this world a better place for our children and our children’s children.

We thank you for your continued participation in THE KNOW SHOW weekly philosophical discussions and appreciate your suggestions for program improvement as well as guest that you would like to see on the program.  As your host I am always appreciative for your input and we listen to your request and constructive ideas.  Create A Great Day!

Love, Peace and Joy!  Unspeakable Joy!

    Sincerely,

    Rev Mc

Joy Keys chats with Social Justice Advocate Bryan Stevenson

    in Current Events

Bryan Stevenson is a public-interest lawyer who has dedicated his career to helping the poor, the incarcerated and the condemned. He's a professor of law at New York University Law School and the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, an Alabama-based group that has won major legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent prisoners on death row, confronting abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill, and aiding children prosecuted as adults.

EJI won an historic ruling in the U.S. Supreme Court holding that mandatory life-without-parole sentences for all children 17 or younger are unconstitutional. He has won relief for dozens of condemned prisoners, argued six times before the Supreme Court, and won national acclaim for his work challenging bias against the poor and people of color. He has received numerous awards, including the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Grant. He is a graduate of the Harvard Law School and the Harvard School of Government, and has been awarded 14 honorary doctorate degrees.

Among the first cases Bryan took on was that of Walter McMillan, a black man from Harper Lee's hometown of Monroeville who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn't commit. The case would change Bryan's life and transform his understanding of justice and mercy forever.

JUST MERCY (Spiegel and Grau Hardcover) follows the suspenseful battle to free Walter before the state executes him, while also stepping back to tell the profoundly moving stories of men, women, and even children, who found themselves at the mercy of a system often incapable of showing it.

  • Singer songwriter Lara Landon shares her life lessons

    in Lifestyle

Three weeks after the unexpected death of her father, Lara Landon is moving forward with plans to release her new album as a tribute to the man that helped inspire it.

Singer-songwriter Lara Landon will release her new album,There is Grace, via The Fuel Music.
While there are already fan favorites and the lead single, “There is Grace,” is already headed to radio stations, one song in particular has special significance to Lara. She wrote “I Want to Know You” for her father, and was able to share it with him before he passed. Explains Lara, “He’s shown me God and that’s what the song I wrote about him was about. I want to know and love God as much as my dad.”

Lara teamed up with producers Otto Price, Michael Farren and Evan Sieling to begin recording her new, fan-funded eleven-song project which will be released and distributed by The Fuel Music (Gungor, John Mark McMillan, TFK, Bethel Music). Stylistically, There is Grace runs the gamut of folk-inspired singer-songwriter tracks integrating acoustic guitar and cello to cinematic beat-driven pop. What gives the album coherence is Lara’s heartfelt, raw and vulnerable lyrics.

"I've been working on this album for two years with my own hopes, reasons and expectations for it, but I had no idea the very songs I wrote would be what I needed to hear myself right now,” says Lara. "The message of Grace is going to be more powerful than ever because it's so real to me now, more real than I ever imagined it would be when I wrote this album.”

Cheating Husbands: How To Survive A Cheater with author Margaret Kreps

    in Relationships

Many women suffer with the knowledge that they ultimately married a cheater. Some women ignore it and others immediately head straight to divorce court. What do you do when you find out your husband is a cheater? Let's ask author Margaret Kreps author of, "My Intimate Journey with Caesar." In her novelette, author M.F. Kreps takes us on a journey when she finds out her husband is cheating. She goes on a journey, not only with life, but with her hair as she gets it cut into a Caesar. For many women, their hair is who defines them, but the author instead defines her hair. The choices, emotions, and decisions that she makes as she goes throughout her discovery, are touching. It's true what they say, that the right hairstyle can change your life. ~www.mfkreps.com "This is told from the woman's viewpoint as the story of how she caught her husband cheating but made her plans first before he knew she knew.  That's a smart woman, get your ducks in a row!" ~Paula Harp's review

Margaret is an excellent storyteller! If you're a fan of Terry McMillan books, you will definitely enjoy this. No one was perfect in the story, which added to its authenticity and made it all the more refreshing. ~reader review
